ParticipantRe: Water stay in the machine does not drain
self cleaning system on the wma’s so less likely to be a pump failure than it is on front filter washers.
if you feel confident and competent, and want to check for blockage,
power off, unplug.
either tilt back or to left hand side. in which case get someone else to hold the machine for safety purposes. easier acces from rear panel though
locate central rubber hose that comes down fromt eh middle of the drum.
squeeze the concerteena bit does it feel liek its empty of if theres water in it ? if it feels empty…
get a washing up bowel, position under machine
undo jubilee from rubber hose at the joint to the drum – 7mm socket or large stubby phillips screwdriver
remove “holey cup” from inside rubber hose
clean. if no obstructions or debris in “cup” unclip other end of hose unclip the plastic clamp off pump and check for foreign bodies there too.
if still no sign of fault then you can check to see if the pump impeller is turning by removing pump housing and turning the impella and feeling a clunky resistance. if there isnt any resistance or any impeller (!) it needs replacing.
there are other ways of checking the pump working but thats the safest diy way.
also if your waste hose joins on to a spike instead of a down pipe it might be worth making sure the pea trap and spike is clear!

xelent wrote:lightweight
theres a reason why they arent lightweight – counterbalancing, otherwise the machine will bounce around the place!
have you considered asking one of the local independents on here or Dave_Conway about obtaining a Qualtex twin tub washer? its a bit more expensive than the camping twin tub but they seem to be fairly durable.
Ive sold one before and they are fairly slim, and arent that heavy either.

ParticipantRe: New Dishwasher Recommendations please
or spend a bit extra and get a promotional siemens with a 5yr p&l warranty!
depends whats on offer in your locality. siemens are the premium brother of bosch, and tend to be slower sellers over bosch’s so if you can find a local independant with one in stock, with the promotional warranty, which the shop bought either before april or augusts price rises you could be quids in…
one thing i noted was you listed a bosch sgs45c08, which is a satin silver model.
this is a very light silver, compared to other manufacturers silvers, so it would be very worthwhile seeing it in the flesh before you purchase, which is obviously, where independents are even better over the internet :D:D:D

ParticipantRe: Bosch WFB2004GB/16 door interlock
Also make sure your door pecker is also in alignment with the interlock hole.
Those hinge supports will wear and the hinges are prone to bending over time causing the pecker to drop and not catch properly all the time. if so, replace along with interlock

ParticipantRe: indesit isl70c wont dry on sensor settings
before anyone says anything, i know im being cheeky here, but is this the same problem with all merloni-brand sensor dryers with drum sensor bands? and could it throw up a f-15 error on lcd display dryers?!
*cheesey innocent grin*

ParticipantRe: Newpol washing machine
Hazel, may i ask, what makes you think you need a new belt ?
It wont be an “old” machine, but that model is one of the washers that were also badged up as servis over here in the uk. Not quite sure which model – will check tomorrow – iirc it was a 3000 series – but i know those servis’s are now getting to the point where bearing failures are becoming more and more common.
Reason I ask this is that the belts for w/m generally do not tend to go as often as what they do for tumble dryers, and are often wrongly accused for a w/m not spinning, when in fact they are perfectly ok!
First and foremost have you seen the old belt? If you havent, then first thing is to see if the current belt is in one piece, or if its snapped? If its in one piece, and a complete loop, one possibility is that the washer has been overloaded and has just thrown the belt off. If its not in a complete loop is it in a strip and shredded at both ends, leaving feathered “threads” of belt hanging, or has it melted through cleanly in one point?
if its the latter, my fear is that the drum may have jammed and after tracking down a new belt, and fitting it, you will find you get the same problem soon after.

ParticipantRe: Advice please – which Bosch Tumble Driers made by Bosch?
i might be missing something here, so correct me if im wrong, but the wtl6003 was around about 6-8 years ago, which is a pretty good life for a drier these days.
so apart from badge snobbery is there anything wrong with replacing it with a white knight badged condenser? they arent the worst on the market (but not the best) as far as condensers go, and dont blow their stats as often as hotpoint/indesit/credas. also because they are british built, they havent been affected by the pounds recent slump against the euro, which has caused a mssive 30-40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} price rise with all european built appliances over the last 21 months
depends really on your budget – our shop opinion is the zanussi condensors are solid and hardest wearing, but tend to be expensive when something actually goes wrong like thermostats if you forget to clean the filter as zanussi wont supply the heater stats/cutouts separate from the element!
hotpoint credas and indesits have top mounted water containers, which make emptying a lot more conveniest. but also arent the most solid on the market. however spares are fairly cheap and easily available however there are issues with getting the *right* parts for some of the models. not even hotpoitns own spares sales team seem to have the right information to hand all the time!
siemens still sell their appliances based on “designed and built in germany”… so is an expensive choice. but the cheapest is £480ish+ so its an “investment” considering they still have a 5yr p&l warranty.
Thing is tho if you are consideriing an investment purchase, have you asked penguin abotu the ise?

Hi xelent, the zanussi 3kgs are weighty, not quite as heavy as a normal w/m but a hell of a lot easier to handle, regardless of weight. it was a few months back i last took one out to a customer, but i would estimate approx 45-50kg, approx dimensions 65Hx 50Wx 50D (cm)
the only downside is sheer cost for a new one. if you came into my shop i would ask you for £459 of your hard earned cash for one of these dropped off locally.
unless you can find a s/h one, and even then, because the model has been in production for so long without a noticeable difference in appearance, the older aged ones are prone to rusting through, and pump failures. so make sure if you find one, see it working before parting cash!
Best way to do a short test for one of these is to put an old newspaper under it and run it on a 90degree wash (to test hot and cold fill), rinse (tests gasket and drum as its the highest fill of water), then a spin (for bearing and strut/carcass wear). If it completes all 3 without leaks and massive noise its a good sign!
good news is tho if you can find a s.h one the new market is very small, and resale is even smaller so the chance of the seller finding another buyer soon is tiny. chances are whoever has one for sale would bite your hand off at the first offer you made them. so keep your initial offer low and haggle up!
as for plumbing in, they arent great fittings, but you can get “diy” cut in taps that will allow you to connect it up to mains water feed. obviously if you are in rental accomodation, seek permission first otherwise you may lose your deposit!
The other options for space that havent already been mentioned are slimline toploaders
off the top of my head, hotpoint have the wtl500 and whirlpool also produce one – awe6517, and are as close to a front loader as you can get other than the zanussi. Approx 5kg load, and 1000 spin.
If i had the hotpoint in in the shop it would be £459 delivered. If i had the whirlpool in the shop it would be £499 delivered, but i was recently told by a customer that currys had this for less than £400, which is less than i can get it at trade… so… anyway!
one thing to remember is because they are top loaders they wont fit under a worktop (obviously) and approx dimensions for both are 90H x 40W x 60D (cm)
Again it will also really like a direct feed, rather than runnig off sink taps 😛

haier spares are cheap? I rung up haier for an interlock for a 14 month old w/m. were told to contact jtm (iirc) and was quoted £40 + p&p…
