i see on tintergooglenetweb it reckons its motor issues, if this is correct then it had new brushes about 6 months ago, so wont be them being low, and that leaves the tacho, never had to check one before, so how do you check the tachos on these?

rust can occur well within 72 hrs of initial oxidisation
id be checking to see if the drain pipe from the fridge hasnt popped out of the plastic tray over the comp and hangiing over your rust spot…

its zanussi, if nothing in diagnostics doesnt work, and theres no error codes its 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} main module. ensure you make a note of the wiring connections. i think i stripped a fle1416 a few months back that was a bearing failure.
which reminds me, check the bearings arent on their way out, as thatll make it BER

ParticipantRe: Domestic appliances – reliability and design
exactly. although for zanussi tubs the only way to be viable financially is going direct and bullying DP down on the list price of their parts. i dont feel guilty doing this to distriparts as their parent company built the bloody machines, whereas i would if it was qualtex or connect for example. usually end up with £70-75 gross margin (inc callout) and although its 45-60 mins for an effort-intensive job, im normally turning htese around quicker than a lot of other repairs where you can spend half an hour just fault finding. big problem is that kinda “big” job used to mean customers would write off machines, but not any more and its impacting on our new sales turnover now…

had 2 of these with duff motors, where low carbons have damaged armatures/coils. pcbs seem to be pretty solid…

ParticipantRe: 55cm wide vented tumble dryer, but normal height (85cm)
nada. you would have to go for a vented 3kg hotpoint or white knight. no normal height narrow ones left.
how old was your candy out of interest ? i havent come across these size parameters in the last 6 years, and id be surprise if they had existed in the past 20!

my only concern was the beko wm5140 bit. i agree with stratgirl that it does kinda reinforce the whole “why bother calling an engineer out when “most washing machines have sealed drums” and therefore irrepairable”.
no, it doesnt mean everymachine with a sealed tub is irrepairable, its just “nigh on irrepairable” i have managed to fix zanussi and hp sealed tub designs, just not a high percentage! plus id be happy with £150 straight for a wm5140 tub replace, based on connect’s avilable margins on beko spares 🙂

ParticipantRe: is this a gorenje?
cheers bob, if you saw what im looking at atm, you’d realise £36 is about £35 too much! especially when ransome spares are quoting £35 themselves!
a fiver, or even a tenner i could accept as a fair price, but £36 is just way ott! ho hum sounds like the landlord will have to fork out for it :/
edit… hmm £21.51 on qtx… massive saving! 🙂

ParticipantRe: is this a gorenje?
hmm its just the lable layout and info is a dead ringer, and the logo, “G” inside teh “V” i wondered if that was the old gorenje logo, g, obviously for gorenje and v, for velenge…

call out to hp washing machine, wf220 or something, inspected, damaged rear half tub and potentially new pcb as its p155ed all over it.
cust – are you sure its not fixable?
us – no, it is fixable, but its not *economical* to fix…
cust – so why cant you fix it?
us – we can but do you really want to pay more than what the machines worth to repair it?
cust – no of course not, but how much will it cost?
us – as we said, about £200 for the module and rear drum, and then the labour which is nearly £60
cust – sounds like youre trying to sell us a new machine, how much is a new one?
us – a like for like hotpoint is going to be about £300ish
cust – thats more than £250… i think well have a think about it…
us – ok, feeling were gonna get shafted, politely insist on the callout fee before leaving. cust was, shall we say, reluctant.
Cust – thing is we dont want to spend more than £100 on a repair as we are moving house, the only sticking point is we are selling the appliances with teh house… so we need somethign that works when we leave, could you find us a second hand machine, it doesnt matter if it lasts only 3 motnhs! as long as its cheap!?
us – well look into it…
cust – can we still have our callout deducted from the s/h mAChines price?
us – pretend we didnt hear…
anyway, lo and behold, get hold of a nice bosch classix, call them up and offer it to them, “no sorry £150 *inc vat* is too much, and really like a hotpoint as everything else in the kitchen is hotpoint…”
GRRRRRRR picky tightwads! they seem to think theyd lose more money by selling the house less the cost of a new w/m when all they have to do is knock off £100 for the value of their 6/7yr old model!

ParticipantRe: help! dealing with a possible rogue merloni engineer…
hmm, up until recently we had a friendly merloni engineer who has since left and joined a multiples team. weve known him for ages, and when we booked a job for him from our cust we would always give him the lowdown with what we already knew about the customer and what we could offer regarding exchanging/uplifting, in some cases we had to plead to him to repair, like when we had DART stock go wrong after their demise, and no one to send it back it was like PLEAAAAAASE fix it at all cost, we cant send it back if you BER it!!!
But yeh, to bryan, we booked the callout for this job, as we tend to be first port of call for customer issues, and encourage a close relationship with them. so its not like cust was after a refund, why exchange a working spinner, only 6 months in? surely if you were gonna fraudulantly exchange you would do so 10, or 11 months (or even 11mths/25 days in! like we had one cust do! >:| )
But yeh, still doesnt explain the serial on the exchanged unit differing to that of the one the engineer had put on his jobsheet of the spinner he had seen, that was then submitted for his report to merloni, does it.
