one tip – rangemaster f/f are heavy. almost twice as heavy as a lg or samsung american jobby.

dont be fooled by cheap net prices, make sure you insist on a “delivery to kitchen” service unless you really wanna break your back.

we did a sxs american f/f last week and it can bearly move it by one person !!!

    i have a nice hotpoint bd62ss for sale 🙂

will fit in aesthetically anywhere, even out west..! 😛

cant you just glue any old door of the same era to it tho if they are cash strapped??? at the end of the day, £100 fix is better than a £400 appliance…

clockwork, only other week, had one of these where solenoid had failed and also popped triacs on board, had emw fix pcb (sod to remove) but also afterwards found analogic ps had gone, because they felt it was ber at the retail spares prices i was quoting and refusing to pay me anything (“but the machine only cost £229 from comet”) i had to offer spares at cost rate and emw fix in order to get customer to complete repair so i wasnt out of pocket. so just be aware of this before going too far down the road…

Re: AEG 74640 Lavamat – failing at start of program

not unless you are in the trade, im afraid. thing is if you do follow the diagnostics, its a hit and miss affair, and you can end up shelling out big money on pcbs (because thats what it can often tell you), when that isnt what is required. the diagnostics are only a guide and when used with sensible experience of said machines, can usually sort the fault within a reasonable price, the thing with diy fixes is that it can turn out to be pretty hefty, this is partially due to the average price of elux spares being relatively high… so changing say 2x lowest cost components can equate to an independant engineers total labour rate, and then theres still no guarantee youve sorted it. also aeg/elux/zanussi etc dont tend to completely follow standard manual test routines.

its like new cars, its not just a case of cleaning up the plugs or skimming the head gasket… etc like it used to be with the older cars

so much like new washers, full electronic controls throw up an added dimension of this’s and that’s which is where the diagnostics come in handy in order to pinpoint the failure

if you cannot obtain diagnostics for these machines, you will save yourself money in the long run if you get an engineer with access to them to complete the repair. this doesnt have to be an aeg/elux/zanussi service force engineer,

    Re: Advice please…….

cant possibly believe you are liable, even though it was a verbal request for disposal. you could always sell them a s/h scrap dw for £25-50 if they are prepared to take this further and do that to you???

you didnt break the machine, it did it itself, and another fault screwed the pcb after you fitted it. id go as far to say you were within your rights to keep the labour for the repair that you completed, only issue being the inferance you made it was worth saving which they could claim was your “recommendation” even though it was based on more that just mechanical life.

its not your problem they didnt want to hang on to the old machine, htey obv dont want to insist on giving you something for your effort to fix the machine, dont go out of your way. people screw you for everything they can and i bet they prolly have more cash than you too 😀

the thing with the 8kg aqualtis is that its mechanically basically the same as the standard 8kg condenser range tcm87*something i think.

same cruddy drum spindle, so reliability will always be usage dependant.

lg mechanical design is top notch for mileage, but electronic reliability will always be a question but at £450+ id expect it to be high…

bosch operate a 2-tier range of driers – gorenje slovak manufactured entry level stock and german manufactured higher spec stock. both are fine, and well made, but if your only after entry level kit, then gorenje are better value… and same warranty…

Re: Tricity Bendix washing machine diagnostic

erm, yeh ok, if you want to potentially set fire to your kitchen.

ask yourself why the hell you have a thermostat connected to a heater.

be it in a washing machine, cooker or radiator etc.

its so the temperature can be controlled. to consider bypassing a stat is just mindless ignorance, and to even suggest trying that, would imply you’re far from adequately competent to work on your own machine. so from a friendly point of view, pls dont expect any engineer to further help if you cant recognise this, because the balance of responsability will be shifting from you to them…

besides, if you could wire in a separate stat, where would you obtain it from??

um… this isnt advised… analogic pressure switches digitally measure pressure differences. this could have screwed it..

connect have zanussi diagnostics on their “mediator” references, and with zanussi/triben/elux/aeg washers its always worth using this resource first before replacing anything. otherwise you wont make any money (if your honest) or will ripp off the customer (if your dishonest and replace to test)
