ParticipantRe: a… "how would you word things" quiz…
as i had a few moments spare I thought id let you know how it unfolded. firstly we agreed to a split payment over 2 months, £100 then £90. And the door seal issue was sorted a few weeks later with a gasket that was ordered in error, so instead of sending that back we wrote it off and i fitted for free and she was all very happy and handed me 100 in notes anyway.
also thanks for your feedback and advice (taken aboard) and dedicated responses,
lee – you can ask service force to do the same thing for £79, and bosch £89, serviceforce wont give you anything back, bosch will give you half of that off a new bosch. we give the whole callout off a new machine from us. thats our business model that has worked well for many years, and in the past was our guarantee customers could trust us – i.e we had nothing to gain by writing a machine off. Also at the end of the day its not fair on all your other customers to do that for one dozy (i dont think her attitude was deliberately thick), when the others have the dignity to pay your fees. Not only that, shes clearly a “chatter” so what happens when she tells her friend who we charged a full fee for replacing a drum spring which took maximum 15 mins to do, and then i potentially lose the friend who recommended us as a customer?
twicknix – i did tell her new was her best option but she just didnt have the finances available to go that way, hence trying to help her out. and the tank was ordered after seeing applaince, although in hindsight I shouldnt have done that until the call out had been paid.
Martin – she said “its dropped just like my friends one you fixed the other month” normally it would have but as i remembered her friends one quite vividly, it didnt jingle 😛
And ally you were right, 3 visits 🙂 In reality no one lost out, shes got the best she could afford, i didnt make a loss, and I now watch my words a lot closer. Even gotten into the hang of starting to ask: “has this call-out has been settled prior to my visit, or will I need to take payment from you today?” straight after greeting them before stepping in, only had one person so far go “oh theres a callout charge? oh ok i guess that will have to do”

ok thats cool, i dont mind them other than their ridiulous levels of insulation but then vestel stuff has gone that way too so i guess its the status quo now. What about for the bread and butter market – are you able to make any margin on liebherr for the up-to-£200 customer?

what have i missed? I swear (after working for nearly a decade right next door to a NAS – national autistic society playhouse) that ChrisX displays clear autistic spectral tendancies. Give the guy a breather, the internet is only one-dimensional and easily misinterpretted and as many aspergers sufferers dont realise how they come across anyway in real life, it can only be even easier for them to come across as rude dense ungrateful or just persistent, im thinking wrongly or rightly we just gotta give the guy the benefit of doubt and put it down to that instead of anything else.

ParticipantRe: What washer/dryer
a warm breeze drys better than most washer driers. either go for an £800 bosch, £1200 miele or stick with a washing machine, and get a dinky 3kg vented dryer for £150!
Mod edit: Removed slang for wind as it may cause offence.Don

duly noted, never knowlingly scammed, so far unscathed. hoping… should the need arise… this gives us the opportunity to play the “the playaz” 😛
Whilst on the subject of scamming, hopefully people who get the daily bnp oops sorry i mean the daily mail, read the piece about secure wifi and how your smartphone can show your account details if you log onto “free wifi”. It occurred to me that it was possible some scammers could lure you to the house to fix a broken washing machine, insist on paying by bacs and getting you to check on your smartphone that it had entered your account. of course, they would be ever so generous to allow you access to their wifi that will record your passwords etc whilst you happily make sure your fifty squid in your account, only to disappearhundredfold a few hours later… 🙂

ParticipantRe: LG F1256QD
No worries, but please be aware spencer that this is only me suggesting an alternative part to the pcb, its not in any way guaranteed to sort your problem, as a pcb is still a possible culprit, its just as an engineer, the first place I would look at would be the ntc, and therefore test it accordingly and make a decision on whether to replace the ntc/heater first based on whether the test results seem iffy which is where experience comes into things.
What is worth remembering is that wash elements do not tend to last the 8+ years they used to and your lg is probably 4+ years old by now, which means you have not lost out on anything if the pcb is at fault, because you will probably require a new element at somepoint in the near future. Hope this helps!

ParticipantRe: Servicenet
Ooh didnt know GLG/servicenet were tied up with the dyson repair center (the company that was on watchdog who cold call people becuse their dysons annual service is due, based on the statistic that at least 1 in 4 households have a dyson).
So does this mean servicenet will rise again as servicenet, or as another brand?

ParticipantRe: bosch washer dryers WVD models
1/ had lots of windows open, and then sheer laziness ensued once id noticed which is why it hasnt been rectified.
2/ been on the phone most of y/day to find one from various internet bearing and seal peoples. no one has heard of it.
3/ well they might not be in the habit when they have TQC but remember this isnt the pukka bosch stuff its the “built-under-license” kit.
Thats why im wondering why the ukwg bearing kit 05SS06 / BS05109 is listed as having:
WASHING MACHINE BEARING KIT BOSCH
Large Bearing 6306Z
Small Bearing 6206Z
Seal 35×72/84×11/18yet the one thats come out this oem spider cross (has 62062Z & 63062Z bearings) is a 35 . 72 . 9.5/16.5
so really i am hoping someone can tell me why the ukwg spares have a different size seal in the kit to the one thats been in this particular spider cross off this machine, and if anyone knows what size bosch are fitting to the OEM bearing/spider cross spart part now. Cos that would tidy up this query 😛
4/ 18mths isnt an issue as its being sold with the house. been given an extra couple of weeks now cos the new owners are in a chain. but in all honesty, we have sold plenty of wvds and most see out 5-8 years, 3 is a bit short!

usually situated now in a hole in the element bracket, and normally supplied with a new element. element position is in the rear of the tub. So if youre gonna give it a go, might as well replace both, I think they are about £30ish, give the ukwg shop a call tomorrow, because the part isnt listed on the website so they will need to load it onto their system but shouldnt take them more than a cpl of days to get it to you.

ParticipantRe: LG F1256QD
Right, basic wm principle of heating.
You have a tank of water (tub), a brain (main pcb), a water level sensor (pressure switch – p/s), a water heater (element), and a water temperature sensor (ntc).
you turn on the washing machine. The p/s tells the pcb tub is empty, so the pcb feeds electricity to the water valve solenoid. this turns it on and lets water fill. the p/s then tells the pcb when the tub has enough water, therefore the pcb then stops feeding electricity to the valve, and it shuts. All the time this is happening the pcb is also feeding electricity thru the ntc and back into the pcb. The ntc is basically a temperature affected resistor. So because the pcb is measuring how much electricity it is recieving back, it can work out how cold/warm the water is. you have an element that is fed electricity based on the ntc resistance, so when the pcb is being told the water is not warm enough it will keep feeding the element electricity. When the resistance of the ntc has changed enough to signify the water is warm enough, the pcb then works out it no longer needs to heat the water and cuts the electricity to the element off. Just like the warm air in an oven tells the thermostat to click on or off. OK?
However NTCs can go out of calibration, through limescale, damage or corrosion, poor quality or just age. This could make the pcb think your water is say -65*c , instead of 25*c and therefore will continue to heat the water until the resistance is in line with what it thinks 30, 40 or 60*c should be!
hope that little essay explains how your machine works.
PS you have actually connected the supply feed to the cold fill tap? the most common solution to boilwashes on all programs is usually being connected to a hot feed!
the easy way to tell is to put the machine on for a rinse only program, and then feel the inlet hose/copper pipe after the machine has finished its several stop-start fills after about 5 minutes since putting it on. if your pipes or hose is warmer than just cool that is why. If you have had plumbing work, kitchen modification or even just new flooring put down, in fact anything that could require the machine to be unplumbed, and it so happens to correlate with when the lg started to malfunction then thats my bet

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wt761 bearing replacement
4mm h/s/s drill bit, start from halfway and guage 3 (tri) or 4 (quad) grooves down inwards to inside of bearing housing in tub, and then cold chisel (edge in grooves) the remaining edge of the bearing race with no less than an 8lb sledge hammer. you will get it out, after about 20 mins. just be sure your grooves arent too deep they extend past the outside edge of the bearing, otherwise the obvious water ingress will happen. it is a bit of a bodge but its the quickest way, HTH
