she works for another comapny that has a contract from a housing association which is going out for tender from the 1st april, under contract laws employess working on that contract are tupe’d over to the new company where they continue under thir orginal terms and conditions for 90days after which the new employer can then re negoiate, connaught is a bone of contention with the company she currently works for but is the most likely to be awared the new contract unless they go bust of course.
The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE)
there is alot of stuff about connaught on the financial sites if you look, the point i was getting to was they were loaned 15mil about 2 weeks ago to pay outsanding bills, the rest was ramblings 🙂

connaught are in serious trouble, they recently got a temporary short term loan of 15mil to hold them over , their current debt is approx 150 mil which is reported to be going to hit 200 mil by the end o aug2010.
Their share price lost approx 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and trading was suspened 9 times in one day because of the erratic trading.
barclays sold their debt on for approx 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of its value last week , other banks are doing the same.
ive got a interest in connaught as it a rival company to the one my wife works for and was/is possibly who could be tupe her over april next year :/
The 15mil was to pay bills so maybe anyone owed money should get onto them because that was announced 1-2 weeks ago .Jeremy

Its easy to diverse into other area’s, the hard bit is doin it before someone else comes along.
‘nothing ventured is nothing gained’
‘speculate to accumulate’

‘if at first you dont succeed’
The point is times have moved on, running a repair business 10-15 yrs ago was easy now its alot tougher. It doesnt really matter wether u are multi billion pound turnover company or a one man band, competition is there at all levels. Look at what bestbuy are attempting to do against comet and currys the scale is bigger but the principal is the same. So will the likes of currys/comet stand still and take the risk of being pushed downwards , unlikely, they will fight back they may loose ultimately but they wont roll over. There biggest weapon is pricing they will become more aggressive but they still need profit and lots of it. What they cant offer is that personal service/touch.
The point im making is we live in a very fluid economy/market place, there isnt much point in quoting the good old days as its irelevant now.
fight back until there isnt any more to go and use ones ‘enterprenial instincts’ to move that cause forward/create an exit plan for the future.Doom and gloom mind set isnt healthy or constructive imho.

the ideology of being a ‘service engineer only’ has long gone if you are s/employed. those that want a repair and are prepared to pay then you do it. where the economics for the machine or what the ‘punter’ is prepared to pay dont stack up sell them a new machine. not all will bite but thats business again, walk away with a call out charge from those ( they add up).
the industry imo isnt doomed it has just changed !
‘if you cant beat them join them’ i sell the better brands if they want a cheapy or a merloni product i take my call out chrage and walk away, sell them some reasonable quality and they will come back down the line, sell them crap and they will tell their friends u sold them crap when it gives them nothing but hassle and poor service. imo its a key point to selling appliances to retain some integrity on what you advise them on for the future.
if you cant adapt to this then you will be left behind without a doubt.

ive had a few where the microswitch on the antflood sticks especially it seems if its been running in that state for a long time. check the toc for the heater, if its in the base the toc will be located agaisnt the undesrside of the s/steel if u cant see the element it will be located on the left side of the appliance once u have removed the cover and will be locacted on the heater itself. failing that a model no will help as depending on the model u can see the last error code logged + diag

you have to move with the times and diversify, its a case of either do that or slip into oblivion. Thats what running a business is all about seeing where the problems/change of markey forces are and then doing something about it. 1 on 1 business sense !

The problem was the dryer element < 10meg e/ins in all cases , ive had another 2 since exactly the same fault, all 3 customers hardly used the dryer on them.Disconnecting the element sorted it, doesnt seem to throw any error when its taken out of circuit so 1 customer said leave it disconnected then, havent heard a peep out of them so all must be good.

ParticipantRe: gas appliances
ts a bit more complex than that I’m afraid,
-Pipe sizing
-pressure loss
-ventilation requirements
-working pressure
-siteing requirements
-requirements of other appliances in the room you are working in or may notice while working in the house.
Remember if you have to relight a boiler and it has blatant faults on it that you dont notice, you were the last gas engineer to see it if anything goes badly wrong before any other gas engineers visit, whether you worked on it or not.
Exactly its not just about connecting a pipe to a hob. If you want to work on gas then you have to follow the rules e1 else has to be it tedious thats the way it is. Speculate to acumulate if you feel the risks are loaded against you in making any money from the intial investment and finding someone to go get some experince with (work for them for free) isnt possible then you dont do it. But usally where there is a will there is a way !jeremy
ParticipantRe: gas appliances
once you have passed your ccn1 + what ever modules you add to cover boilers, fires, etc etc you are deemed competent. But in order to get your gas safety register card (formly corgi card) you have to work for someone for a period of time to gain experience. Getting your ccn1 etc isnt difficult (well shouldnt be) its getting your card to be able to do work off your own back thats harder. To renew ccn1 + boilers, cookers, fires cost me £900 with the vat, to do it from scratch is going to cost probably 2-3 times that.
Having said that there is money to be made buts its a different ball game to fixing whitegoods!
