Re: VAT Rise – Good News?

This whole vat rate rise imo has/is being over done by the media, we all have to pay it as consumers , period (we have had quite a few months to know this was going to happen). We have enjoyed a low vat rate in comparison to many other EU countries for years now and there was an inevitiability (deficit or not) that it was going to be put up. We should think ourselves lucky that its only 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and not 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} like ireland !

As of yet i havent had any one stop doing a repair or buying an appliance becasue of the rise (£11.00 per £500 rise isnt a deal breaker imo) Fuel is the bug bear £104 to fill my van up this morning but then i can claim the vat back 😉

    Re: HMRC Latest brain wave

    appears that :-

    1) they want to get more tax by looking at the way paperwork is done then they can issue a deeper investigation if they think there is some anomilies. They will claim otherwise but who would trust them ?!?!?
    2) they are public servants creating themselves jobs and to safe guard their pensions etc, our taxes going to fund this nice little operation they are cooking up!

Actually 1 and 2 could be reversed and be just as likely.

how i have done my accounts/books for the last 25 yrs has been more than satisfactory for my accountant to generate balance sheets/self assesments etc from but what they are now proposing is it wont be enough. Im not an accountant hence why i pay one, im sure they are going to be bemused as much as everyone else. those that dont use an accountant might be more open to them sticking their ore in. 40-50k sme pa they will want to look at and i dont know but it could be the smaller business they will really want to target as we are easier prey.

I’m sure if there was a better option out there for not too much extra I wouldn’t have any trouble moving some.

    Like wise. 🙂

Re: Hacked Off About Internet Pricing?

so i have been told (so i take it on its face value) companies that buy massive amounts of stock have a deal with the manufacturers (bosch being one) that they get a nice cheque based upon the volume they sell so will sell at a cost or even less because they make their money on the monies got back from the manufacture once their target is hit. Also some others that are in buying groups buy container loads of the stuff, ie they take a container for xxxxx pounds rather than a per unit cost.

To me this makes sense to how they can sell at stupid prices ie less than trade on a single unit cost.

i get siemens, bosch, neff from a shop in the city they sell it for less than DAD will sell to me, allegedly its all about volume sales and ure buying power.

‘The average washing machine will need 3 replacement rubber door seals over its lifetime – That’s £300 you could save by doing the job yourself – enough to buy a new machine! ‘

I wish !!! not any more 15+ yrs ago maybe

The whole thing seems to be based on machines built like 18+ yrs ago, hoover aramtures, crouzet timers, thermostats, what looks like a philco/benidx induction motor. possible a philips/wpool enamled back plate and bearings?

Some person stuck in a time warp looks like to me lol
