    Re: PAT Testing

My idea in doing it was another sideline to not have all my eggs in one basket with added benefit if something fails like a couple of washing machines recently resulted in more income for me, problem with that i’ve never realy had time to do very many due to always being busy thats why i get my son to do them, he can do things with my tester i never new it could do i’m also thinking of using the profits from this to invest in more equipment to make it even easier for him.

I do it also but get my son to do them for me, one of my letting agents has just landed me with about a 100 houses to do, got promises from a couple of others, its worked out well this month as my repair work has taken a little dip but the pat testing has more than compensated for it.

Why would they want to take it away, i’ve never taken a machine away to repair, by the sounds of it shouldnt be to difficult to repair.

DrDill wrote:Dont get it, he isnt qualified so his test result is worthless, all he can do is say that he thinks there is a problem, his testing carries no value as he simply isnt qualified to give a written report. Thats like me a non gas safe engineer telling a customer that i think thier gas cooker is faulty when i am fixing the washing machine, my opinion carries no weight behind it!

Some of us are qualified and hence i would think my readings carry some weight, as for gas thats another matter.

Are the lights flashing or on but not flashing it will have to be cancelled to get out of test mode, another thing i have seen there is a plug on the side of the board sometimes with a resistor or a ribbon cable attached, if that has not been transfered to the new board it will stick in test mode as this tells the board which type of machine it is. jj

Why not the circuit goes through the float switch, when the chamber is full the switch breaks and breaks the circuit to the heater.

If its the older pre Arcadia washer drier with the thermistor glued into the back of the drum, they get porous over the years and let moisture through which will cause this, could be the board also but i would plug a new thermistor in 1st its caught me out a few times now.

    Re: Getting more work?

The only thing about letting agents, you have to remember if you get a couple on board somebody else was doing the work before you so beware, they can dump you just as quickly, i had a letting agent i did a lot of work for then suddenly it all dried up, found out later it was another engineer who went self employed at the same time who was doing the work, thing is we had an unwritten agreement we wouldnt stray into each others areas when i got calls from that agent in his area i gave the calls to him. That taught me a lesson there is no friends in business.

Think it is a module, i had one doing the same had to fit a module it was almost identical to a whirlpool module, so must be made by them.

C00280608 there is a problem with the files loaded onto the module with some of them which causes the motor brushes to arc and burn out the motor, it requires reprograming the module to cure.

Could be an element, thermostat or thermal fuse depends on which type of heater box is fitted.
