    Re: Noisy Ariston

Just because something is part of the “van stock” doesn’t mean it was there. The parts may have been used earlier in the day, the centre may be TOS..who knows.
The engineer is also human, and may have been running late, have an important appointment to keep or something else just as important to him. A washing machine is hardly life or death is it.

From my many years at certain other Italian make, I know only too well that large repairs like that often were rebooked so that time could be factored in.

If the manufacturers were totally efficient, economical and tip-top where do you think the independant would operate anyway?

Sounds like a possible blocked drain tube box. The drain hose connects to it on the back, but it has to be removed to clear. It,s not a hard job as such, just bloody awkward with those sprung plastic clips (at least thats how I find the job…)

Loose fan impellor on the back end of the motor shaft?
Could cause a lack of air flow through the heater resulting in almost overheat situation.

Yes thats it. We at my end call them height reduction kits/plates. Others call them whatever they may.

All they do is allow the appliance to be installed in a position where the maximum height is less than the normal appliance height of 850/855mm and reduce the appliance down to 822mm.

Re: Need to reduce height of Bosch WVT1260GB

There should be a correct height reduction kit for that machine. It’s really just a metal plate, pressed and shaped and comes with foam edge strips to seal around tha fascia end, and usually some fixing screws. The old lid needs to be removed first of course. They aren’t cheap, but it’s the correct way to reduce the height of the washerdryer.

You should be able to get the part direct from Bosch here..http://www.bshappliancecare.com/Bosch/boschspares.html

Re: Miele Dishwasher G646SC – advice on noisy drying fan?

Drain tube for the fan could well be blocked.
Unplug from mains, and remove the outer door panel. The drain pipe for the fan should then be easily seen. remove it and make sure its clean. You may have to check the fan fitting too (they sometimes block that end too).
Refit panel, replug in and test.

No moisture ingress into the heater wiring plug shorting out the heater probe?

Sounds like the float switch has tripped in the base due to it (the base) being full of water. At 10 years I would imagine a leaking wash motor or drain pump, but probably wash motor. If it is, then it’s very expensive and probably uneconomical.

However if you decide to start looking yourself, unplug first as death is permanent.

Early new model Neff washer dryers that banged and bounced should have all been recalled. Updated versions doesn’t do either and is steady.

Recently had self same fault….NTC probe cured it.
The fan motor giving you a squeak is early sugns of fan motor siezure on the horizon. I would advise replacement of fan motor before total siezure occurs (probably after a holiday or something)

If it is only 3 years old, then I would go against my usual policy and repair this machine even if the cost is half a new one (if not more). The quality of your machine is much better than the newer models now, yours being a German made appliance as opposed to the new model German “pretence”.

    Just my opinion though.

I think they’re mechanical as no power is required for it.

    Re: Bosch Washer Dryer.

Also agree on the blockage in the condenser, I always pop the bottom hose and have a good poke with a coathanger up around the top bend to clear anything away.
Also worth checking for correct triac/pcb operation. Trip the door switch, and put the machine onto spin. Hold your hand just under the air ducting when it goes into spin and feel the air temp doesn’t rise. The dryer triac or main power pcb can cause the neutral circuit to complete and allow the dryer elements to heat which would also cause the trip to trip. I find running the spin with door open the easiest way to be sure of no electronic fault.
Just remember to untrip the door switch after this though.

I,m sorry, but I don’t buy the “makers make appliances to work with X detergent”. Years back, Electrolux ran adverts stating the machine had been made and developed with Persil to give best results. At the same time, Zanussi had adverts saying their machines were made with Ariel to give the best results.
Both machine were identically except for a different fascia frontage (made by Zanussi). So who is telling the truth, and which detergent was best?

Detergent sponsorship is just that..sponsorship, which means money for each party. I have no doubt some makes may be better than others, but the appliance will still work with any detergent.

Perhaps the multi in 1 tabs boxes should state that failure to use salt in hard water areas (eg the South of England) will result in premature and expensive failure of wash motor seals, wash motors and probably the water softener too.

Check the screws in the non-hinged side of the plastic frontage are tight, then try some WD40 into the lock mechanism. Shut and open the door a few times. I often find sticky door lock mechanisms cause just this sort of thing….all lights on but nothing happens.
