KeymasterHi Ken,
Sounds like the famed “E2” error and it’s not a DIY fix.
If you get your repairer to join UKW we can talk him through it all though and hopefully get it resolved for you. Eitehr that or see if there’s any of the guys in your area in the directories or pop your postal district up and we’ll try to help.

KeymasterMe and me big mouth eh? 😕
“no brainer” is an official UKW term to be used as you see fit. 😉
Right folks, let’s make hay while the sun shines as they say since I’ve just had Channel 4 on the phone wanting to know about the directories. If you agree to comply with the UKW Charter, which let’s face it isn’t exactly difficult, then please get your details in there and make the most of the free advertising that you can get.
UKW isn’t making money out of that at all and I don’t want money for it, but I do want to see you guys getting a decent shout out of the work we’ve all put in.

KeymasterHi Paul,
It’s a fill error most often caused by a blocked side chamber and it’s not a DIY job to put right. If you try the directories or pop up your postcode I’m sure someone will be able to assist you.
There’s also loads of info on this fault for various models throughout the forums.

KeymasterAll kidding aside, what’s the likes of D&G gonna tell customers when they inform customers that these will not be available until 24th Dec or thereafter?
I really feel sorry for them as there’s nothing they can do and they’re gonna take a pounding from customers. It also exceeds the Currys 6 week rule too, bet it’s gonna go down a storm in there as well!
Bad enough when they have to wait a couple of days now let alone 6 weeks plus.

KeymasterI have offered several people their own hosted forum where information and experience could be passed more openly within a network dealing with a particular manufacturer, insurer or brand. Given that, more than likely, any that are dealing with the independents have most of their network looking in on UKW at some point already it makes a lot of sense to do that.
I think that problems are severalfold…
1. Big companies move very slowly and getting approval for some form of forum takes an age.
2. Fear of being a pioneer in the field.
3. The cost, although it’s really pretty small.
4. Fear of not being in control, which is not really true as we would do and put rules in place as requested for any such forums as I’d regard them as not being mine. We’d just maintain them.
However the offer is open, always has been and I’m more than willing to talk to anyone about it.
I agree though that it could be extremely beneficial for everyone to share the experiences openly and interact well in the medium, I’m all for it.
What I would say though is that unlike the clearly marked “unnofficial” Whirlpool one (which is currently on borrowed time), I’d far rather see some official involvement in any such endevours and being monitored/moderated by the party using it.

KeymasterEhm, the machine you have is a Smeg in a dress.
The Hotpoint you buy now is a Merloni machine and let’s just say that they’re not getting great reviews right now. 😉
Put it this way, I have a Smeg in the house and I wouldn’t give a Merloni machine houseroom if it could possibly be avoided. They also make Indesit, Ariston, Scholtes and Philco off the top of my head.
If you want an integrated to replace it with have a look at CDA as they also offer a 5 year parts warranty and are very customer orientated.

KeymasterJezball,
It’s highly unlikely to be the timer causing that and I’d advise that you gt someone in to look at it that’s familiar with the machine. It sounds like a heater/stat problem but there’s no way to tell with that kind of fault without some testing of the appliance.

KeymasterRe: Brandt Review
Funnily enough Alex I could tell a similar tale, despite having been an agent for Brandt since before the collapse of Tableside!
Oh and I changed the topic for you. 😉
I had a list that was sent to Brandt nearly two years ago of spares I wanted returning for credit, needless to say they never picked them up and I’m damned sure I ‘m not payingto return them. If they want them, they can come get them. The line I take is that these were ordered in good faith to service their product at their behest and I can see no valid reason that I should pay to return spares that I make no profit on, in fact I don’t even make anything doing the work for them in reality, so why should I pick up the tab?
Of course due to a hard drive failure I’ve lost that information and Brandt have no knowledge of it so I have to start again. 🙁
They also owe me money for claims that were rejected as being over 30 days old, what a load of tosh! Under law an invoice is valid for up to 6 years from the date of the work being carried out, I did inform Brandt of this and recieved no reply, just like you.
I also got the same letter of termination and I wasn’t exactly over the moon about it either, not exactly a nice way to treat your agents.
However, I have not paid my spares account with Brandt and that seems to have gotten some attention, now all I need to do is get it through that I will not, under any circumstances, pay to have the spares shipped back. That’s Brandt’s problem, not mine.
Oh and I want the invoices that I have paid too, we did the work in all good faith, the least they could do is pay for it.

KeymasterOkay, it’s the Brandt semi-integrated machine, sorry I was thinking on the ADP8132 and not the APL8213.
It’s a mechanical timer on that which, in all honesty I think we’ve replaced one or two here in ten years, so not a common failure by any stretch. In fact that machine really doesn’t give a lot of grief generally.
There’s a plethora of reasons why it would stop during a cycle, heater, float switch, chamber blockage just for starters but I would not have suspected the timer of being at fault given the experience on these machines.
TBH, without being sat in front of the machine without a multi-meter and a few screwdrivers this is almost impossible to diagnose remotely but I’d first be looking at the side fill and air break chambers.
