    Re: Samsung P1253

Should think it’ll be the same as one next door. Triacs all do the same job AFAIK. If the package is same then legs should be in same order. In fact there’s some print on the board which you can probably still read once you clean off the burn. This should confirm leg position. Nothing to lose.
Ah, slight problem. That number M2LZ47 seems to be a bit foreign. Googling no. brings up datasheets but not much that seem to relate to this component. Still, if the print on the board says e.g. gt / Mt1 / Mt2 or gt / A / C or some such then it probably is a triac and as long as you get one same size and package you should be OK. RS or Farnell will have PDF’s showing what leg is what on everything they sell.

Re: Whirlpool electric comm. t/dryer 3RL8000KQ mtr start sw

After calling Whirlpool and e-mailing them with link to motor picture from a Connect retail site so they could identify what I needed, I looked back in my records to Dec. ’07 and at last found the original order was for complete motor. So I hadn’t obtained the switch after all. 😳 Apologies if I caused anyone here to undertake any fruitless searching.

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

    Phone rings.

Me: (bright and cheerful as ever) “Hello.”

Old lady: “I’ve ‘ad you befoer.”

Me: (Well that gives you the inalienable right to claim my services for the rest of my life, surely.) “Uh-huh?”

    Her: (Gives a surname).

Me: (Oh yeah, like I remember everybody’s name from the last ten years.) “Uh-huhh”

    Her: “I’ve got a leak. (:?: 8O)

……………………. It’s the rubber thing round the door.”

Me: (Ah, now we’re getting somewhere.) “What make and model is it?” (Take phone with me to teapot.)

Her: “I’ll get ‘im to go an’ ‘ave a look” (Grunts heard in background.)

    Im: (distant) “Eco-care”.

Her: (I wait with my ear at least 6 inches from the phone) “ECO-CARE”

    Me: “Hmmm”

    Her: “Bekko”

Me: “Ah-hah!… Model no.?” (Pouring second cup.)

Her: “That is the model no. what I just gave you.”

    (Episode 2 next week.)

Re: Have I got spyware, malware, whatever it is?

Well this has been going on for a long time (months) so I’m not overly worried as my ID doesn’t seem to have been nicked yet and I think it’s possibly just people that want to sell me stuff? I’m careful with e-mail and unless they can follow my keystrokes they won’t get my passwords, is that right?
I’ll take up your offer though Jim when I get the energy for it. Thankyou.

Hoover selector switches are cheap and easy to replace and somewhat unreliable. I’d go for it; even if it doesn’t work this time you’ll soon find another job where this part is required.

He’s done all that and is still a young man? What a comment on the sad times we live in that he wants to fix washing machines.

Hmm. Think I’ll get a truck, buy a few off e-bay where they seem to be fetching £20 to £200, and take ’em up to Sotheby’s .

It depends also on whether you must have a good wage coming in on a regular basis or don’t mind the ups and lots of downs in income which self-employment guarantees. You can get top ups to your low income via working tax credits if you do choose self employment. I used a site called entitledto.com about 5 years ago when I found out about this. It was dead easy to use an online form to check what I’d be entitled to without revealing my ID etc. So I was able to then put in a claim with much more confidence of it being worthwhile. The entitledto site seems now to have transmuted to http://www.turn2us.org.uk//about_us.aspx which seems to be a charity. Should still be worth a look if you’ve got income under £66,000 per year.
