Have you checked pressure switch system? Sounds as though it might have tried to continue filling while you were away and got to an overfill protection point. Broken wire could be explained by high level of water leading to machine trying to spin before fully drained and jiggling about.
Diagnostics are probably available on Connect site.

I guess you’re going by the fault code? Remember it’s only a guide. The fault could equally well be in the wiring / contacts / motor itself. Anyway, if the triac is open circuit it was probably sent there by a motor fault in the first place, so I’d check it all out if I were you. Especially check there’s been no water getting onto the motor.
If it is the triac it should be easy enough to solder in a new one. Desolder first, using solder wick and flux, then it’s easy to solder the new triac into the clean holes that are left.

Sounds as though it could be the actual soft touch switch on the board. Such delicate little switches are easily damaged by dirt or damp or just being pressed too hard. I’ve not looked at a board as modern as that one but I imagine it should be a common enough type of switch. Probably a fiddly bit of soldering and a part costing pennies from RS or Farnell.

    Re: work dead

Reminds me of something I heard on radio about a year ago. Apparently lots of public money had been going into training plumbers. But when they finished the training they found there were no jobs. What a surprise! Whitegoods (DAPSE) was was once a popular thing to teach the unemployed to get them back into work. I guess it kind of worked for me, although I’d only been out a few weeks. Those of my college mates with whom I maintained contact soon jacked it in!

Re: more training. I suppose if it’s free, why not? Still I doubt the value of too much diversification. As a one man band, it’s tough enough trying to keep up on technical/parts etc. with just three or four appliance types. You might need a bigger van if you’re going to do gas on the same run and you’ll need to be clever to know where to find the right tool when you want it.
It comes down to, “jack of all…” OTOH, being a joat’s is a bit more variety in your life.

    Re: Gulf oil spill.

    Hi RocketMan,
    Thanks for the supportive comments.
However, it just so happens that I’m going to leave my window on the world practically unwatched for about ten days while I escape to the country for some wildlife appreciation activity. I guess I may pop in to a library if it’s raining one day but TBH, I’m already miles behind with what’s going on. Even those I describe as, “in the know” have no access to much inside current info and are going by the trickle that BP is making available, judging what’s happening by what’s seen from the ROVs.
I don’t understand much politics, frankly don’t want to waste my time reading about the shenanigans at the top; even though I know it’s important I also know there’s zilch I can do about it. I believe the blame lies not with BP or with any particular individual or company – I doubt if any other oil company acts much differently. I’m pretty sure you’re right about Obama; on the whole I think he seems a good man but we all know what power does and politics … well, Winston said it all… “It’s events, dear boy.” Or something like that. Events are guiding actions (and bulls*t) and not the other way around.
I was tempted to post a link to the harrowing pictures of birds twitching their last but I think if anyone wants to see those they can easily find them and I’m sure people would just think, “propoganda”. I think it’s taking a lot longer for the effects of the spill to become visible than it did with other spills but when it really gets going it will affect public opinion and Obama won’t quite so easily be able to take the brake off drilling.

Yes, Mr Banks. We all know you’ve been capitalising on people in your area, convincing them it was a good idea to keep their old Hotpoints running when they could have treated themselves to a shiny new Haier. 😉

I suppose you can understand why some people hate BP.

I think that could be a misunderstanding. Don’t know where you read it but the media squash the facts in a rather distorting way sometimes.

If water gets into the pipe taking the oil to the surface, it will mix with methane to form something called a “clathrate”. This substance, as far as I can ascertain, is something like ice and therefore solid. This blocks the pipe and stops the oil going up. This is what happened to the “dome” they dropped in late May.

If they try to block the pipe at the bottom of the sea, there is a great danger that the pipe below the sea bed, which is nearly certainly much weakened by events, will leak oil in several places and just as much oil will escape but it will be over a wider area and impossible to catch.

Probably, the best chance of stopping the leak is via the relief wells. These are due to hit their target about early August. But it isn’t easy to hit their target and if they miss first time it takes another week+ to draw back 100 metres (?) and try again. Hence 2 relief wells one week apart. (And some would like 3 or 4.) Also the relief wells face all the same dangers which blew up the first rig. The more you read about it the less confident you get that it’ll work.

    Let’s all hope you’re right!
    Wish I shared your “optimism”.
PS: I don’t read or watch the meedya. I look at what BP is saying directly via its websites and then I go and get the lowdown from the oildrum site. There are some intelligent people there from all ranks and a lot of them speak the same language as you and me.

Re: Can somebody please ring this guy and give him a hand?

Video’s crashed at mo. but early this morning the ROV operator was trying to get a 3 & 11/16″ socket onto a 3 & 5/8″ bolthead using an impact driver with the socket held on with gaffer tape and the switch held closed with string. This went on for at least three hours before I gave up and went to bed.
It’s difficult enough to undo those bolts when they’re on land as they’re torqued to many thousands of foot pounds apparently. The ROV arm was holding the tool (looked like an ordinary drill) using a handle on the side of it about half way along. Guess the power could have twisted its claw off otherwise.
    Mike.
PS: Here’s some previous action on Youtube. The pipe is 21″ in diameter. The shear tool about 14′ long. And remember it’s a mile under the sea.

    Re: Gulf oil spill.

There’s a lot of blaming going on. Even quite a bit of anti UK-feeling as though it had anything to do with you and me. (Well, assuming you’re not a BP shareholder, either.) Meanwhile one or two of the Brits on the Oildrum are taking it out on the Yanks for driving those gas guzzlers. The “special relationship” is wearing very thin.
They can’t really interfere on the technical side though because BP are in the best position to sort it out. Just hope they make some real progress soon.

    Re: LG Drain pump

Think it’s the double one. Unless you want to shell out big bucks for 5031686128011 which is Connect’s number. Just get some ordinary Plasets, and copy what was there. Check for toc’s in originals; if they have them best not use replacement without. You may have to fiddle around extending wiring to fit. I think terminals are probably front facing.
