Its all down to perseverence ( long word for me im sure its spelled wrong ) i think, You can almost tell what customer you got just over the telephone call thoughThat’s a very good point. I took a call last week and I was pretty sure it was going to be a bit of a problem in some way or the other, so I gave her a rather high estimate over the phone and asked her if she would be able to pay me on job completion.
Got there, did job, money was directly forthcoming -no problem. Then she said, ” You fixed my auntie’s machine up the road last week.”
😳 If I’d known it was ******’s niece it would have been a tenner less!

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FHP brushes
I swap carbons, holders, brass inserts at random until I find something that fits. On occasion, to save having to make a second visit to a remote job I just polish the burnt face of the old carbons and splice in a section of carbon cut from some new brushes the right size. They’re mostly 12×5.
One of these bounced back the other day. Had to replace the carbons on a Zanussi. At the job, I remembered that it hadn’t been long ago I did them before. Turned out my chopped in section of one brush had split along lamination. Anyway, had the right ones with me on this occasion.
When I got home, checked my records. Was a whole three years back I’d done them before!

ParticipantRe: Low Pressure
Might be worth trying removing all restrictors in water valve entry side if not yet tried. I know Hotpoint used to make a special low pressure valve.(Might be just an ordinary valve with restrictors removed?)

Following someone else I was changing grill from strix to Diamond H as per list but got a dead short knackering controller so want to check the wiring thorougly, have used the lists on here and the htpt leaflet to try and check but keep coming back to the same wiring up which caused the problem.

BGOh, I see. Sounds like you’ve already been there. 😳

Dunno if it’s relevant to your problem but there’s a sticky thread at the top of this forum entitled “Diamond H wiring ”
The last post in that thread links to a very comprehensive 4 page PDF giving connection details for all different energy regulators.

ParticipantRe: AEG 57700 Dryer
Thanks Seamy. It seems likely that the cottage guardian or a guest must have just tried it out without washing in and reported it faulty. I’ll get them to test it again.
Incidentally, I found that all the service manuals and bulletins for this were available on Connect’s mediator so I’ve had a read and concluded pretty much the same. Only thing that throws a doubt in is the filter light coming on.

ParticipantRe: Has qualtex inmproved on their bosch brushes?
I gave up cleaning commutators for a while after reading what sounded like an authoritative post on here a couple of years ago. However, I found I was getting quite a few sparky motors directly after fitting new brushes and even one or two armature failures later. Some sparky motors needed new brushes again within a year. So I started using comm sticks again and have found them to be very effective. No sparky motors these last 6 months.

ParticipantRe: White Knight T/D relay???
Ahem. That Connect part £38.04 to me. 😛 .
Jim, have you had a dekko at it? Some very ordinary looking relays on there.

ParticipantRe: AEG 57700 Dryer
Had one of these to look at the other day. Nothing holding pulley on except self-centring. That wasn’t the problem with this one though.
When you put it on any auto-dry setting it packs in after about 20 seconds and the “clean filter” and end lights come on. Seems to work OK when you set it to a timed drying programme though. Needless to say, all the filters, condenser, etc are perfectly clean. Water thing is empty. The dryer hasn’t had much use, it’s in a holiday let. I took off one or two panels and couldn’t see anything untoward.
Any ideas please?
Mike.

Ah! So that’s how you’re supposed to do it? I always applied the stick before fitting the new brushes.

ParticipantRe: Beko WMA610W Pump
That would be a good idea and it could be extended to a lot of other parts, like what bearings/seals fit what machines.
Connect used to have “fit list” on their parts but they took that away. Masterpart much better for finding things but always have stock shortages these days. Sometimes the old paper catalogues are the best place to search.

It does not appear to have an impellor jug. There’s a metering tank on left side and a mushroom in base.
