    In our dreams.
More likely they’ll find a way to make washing machines even cheaper (maybe recyclable) and the mass of folks will unplug the old one and put it in the doorstep recycling box. And we’ll all die in the workhouse. (Look forward to meeting you). 🙂

Maybe by endeavouring to provide a training facility we/you would be making it easier for the government to bring forward the legislation. Whilst there is no-one to do the training they would be very foolish to introduce it.(Not that being foolish has ever stopped a government doing anything . )
Does UKW believe the EU will force this on us? (In that case I’ll vote for UKIP next time round!)

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

Had a quick look at document. Amazing how 154 pages are needed to describe what we do everyday in our work. (And on top of all that we have to cope with confined spaces, wet, slippery floors, choking dust and dirt, etc.). Makes me realise what heroes we really are.
I can see the assessment and (re-)training are going to be a bit dull though. Not looking forward to spending my time and/or money on that.
Nah, can think of better ways to direct my career. 😉

I’m trying to edit that link to get it to go to the right page and it’s not proving easy. It’s computer training I need.
    Mike.
PS Only way to get there is Google NVQ and take 1st result.
PPS No, I’ve done it! Just needed the htm on the end. Isn’t learning fun!

I did but it was all a bit complicated and boring and didn’t seem very relevant.
    So instead I Googled NVQ.
    1st result: http://www.qca.org.uk/14-19/qualifications/index_nvqs.htm
Clicked on “How are NVQ’s achieved?”
Sounds a bit more user friendly.

    Re: crosslee stats

Crosslee (01422) 203963 are really reasonable with their parts prices. For stats it’s generally worth going direct and paying with your card over the phone. They’ll tell you 7 days but they post out promptly and it usually arrives in 1 to 2 days.
Chances are you don’t need the reset stat as it is obviously doing its job.

Re: Laughing all the way to the bank

    Here’s some more evidence:
    Whirlpool module A1D 09
Connect website: 5031680799057 £71.71 (SRP £90.73) (in stock)
Masterpart website: 481921478165 £13.99 (in stock)

Now I guess this may be because it’s an old seldom used part and so Connect might have bought their stock a long time ago whilst MP bought theirs more recently. ❓ But given the bad publicity this is generating for them I would think it worth them doing a regular review of their prices against their rivals. (Bit like Tesco vs. Asda).
    Mike.

PS This one’s so old that both EMW & QER have dismantled their test rigs!

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

It’s beginning to sound more and more like one of these days I’ll either have to invest in a shirt and tie or go underground or go out and get a proper job. Ah well it’s been fun being a repairman but I’m not going to try and play Canute. When this regulation business comes in I think I might be inclined to just knock it on the head and look for a new niche.

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

I understand that NVQ can be gained simply by undergoing assessment without the time and expense of having to invest in a course of training.
Is this correct? I hope it is because I think a lot of us would need a subsidy from the government if they were going to insist on us doing a course. (There again could be fun actually, few weeks/months holiday paid for by the state while mucking around with fellow miscreants in some local college). There’d be a lot more machines getting scrapped because there’d be no-one available to fix them though. Shame really.

Ah, think I’ve found out the trouble.
It says you have to ring them with your account no. and postcode to obtain “access codes”. Have to do that when I’m not busy.

    Re: w/pool awm049

If the machine “thinks” the door is open then it suggests that no power is getting from “common” on d/sw to the timer/pcb. Have you followed that wire and tested it for continuity up to the board? (I’m assuming the switch in the live side but this would apply also if it’s on neutral side).
If it’s not that, then you just have to look at each component in turn and see if everything seems OK plus a careful examination of wiring harness for shorts/abrasion. When you’ve eliminated all that it comes back to timer. :haier:

    Re: SEME website

It doesn’t work for me either. Still, it’s new so we have to give them a chance to fix it.
I also find Connections search facility difficult. Any more than one word at a time and it returns no results usually.
Not too clear about how to get the best out of Masterpart’s site either.
Maybe I just need some computer training :con: ?
    Mike.
