    Thanks for the replies gentlemen.
That’s one less thing to worry about.
Watching and waiting for things to get to the fault point is the most time consuming and boring part of this job.

    Re: skinny jubilee clips

I think that’s Oetiker, a Swiss or German firm. I had a look at their site last night in relation to this thread but I could only find links to suppliers to industry in vast quantities. The thinnest I could find was 7mm.
I thought the plastic croc types got wider in the bigger sizes, I know the smaller diameters can be thin.
I had this problem on a dishwasher connection a few weeks back. Right inaccessible b***er it was. After drying thoroughly and applying Debor, I wrapped some ordinary galvanised wire round it a couple of times and twisted the two ends together to tighten. (Saw my dad do this on his car radiator when I was a kid).

Might be a good item for UKW members to pool together on a bulk buy here?

Re: Indesit – Not in my back yard at least!

I heard a bit on the radio about WEEE today that said it was already implemented in Eire. Apparently it can increase the price of a large expensive item by up to 100 euros (£75).
I don’t know if this means a washer but it might.
Such an increase would make an Indesit cost say £200 + £65 (not so heavy) and a Miele say £500 + £85 (twice? the weight but same volume).(Entirely speculative guestimates on my part).
Of course the Miele buyer would only pay that once in twenty years so once again the wealthy would have their economic superiority re-inforced. 😉

Re: Need Advice on replacement washing machine

Not sure but thought I read somewhere that very cold water could also “set” stains. Anyway, I said warm water not hot. I was envisaging a careful user filling a large jug from the tap, testing temp. with finger, then pouring it gently down a funnel with a bit of rubber hose on the end so the soap drawer didn’t need to be open too far. This would only be for the main wash fill, obviously. It’s far more time consuming and complicated to describe this process than to do it. I’ve known people use this method to ensure the use of their gas heated/econ7 water in preference to using the machine’s heater. Maybe it is a bit fanatical but some of us live that way. 😉

    Re: merloni bearing kits

When you find out the sizes you need Seme do a good range of 2RS bearings (waterproof) at very reasonable prices. Also a good selection of seals though you need to check the quality as I received some Hotpoint single lipped ones the other day. Don’t think I’ll use them.

Re: Need Advice on replacement washing machine

An alternative might be to fill the machine using a measured amount of warm water from the tap via a funnel into the soap dispenser. This would be too troublesome for most people but if you want to get the maximum benefit from your solar installation it may be the simplest way. Once the user got used to doing it it probably wouldn’t be that arduous. It would be interesting to calculate how much/little fossil fuel energy you would save by using such a system. It probably wouldn’t save you much money at today’s fuel prices but the time may not be far off when your investment in solar will be saving you a lot more. 😉

Is 3 in 1 some kind of tablet?(I thought it was oil).
Anyway, is this the overflow leading to flooded base leading to soaked motor syndrome? Or something else entirely?

In the old days, before all the health and safety stuff and threats of regulation etc., a man would have been free to poke all possible loose connection areas with a long wooden stick to see if anything suddenly jumped into life. 😉

Thanks Steve. Fortunately no fluff inside cabinet when I did the job. So refreshing when you don’t leave a tumble dryer job covered in dust and with that ominous tickle in your throat. (I use a dust mask sometimes).
Will hang on for a week or two then maybe pop in there when I’m passing if I don’t hear anything.

Re: Whirlpool t/d AWZ650 vibration noise

Went back there today. The thing was running and condensation was apparent on one wall and you could feel the atmosphere like the Amazon.
Still there was plenty of air flow onto the condenser, though not much water in the collector thing.
Anyway it was shut in a small windowless room together with the washer (also running) and a sink and kettle. It’s the staff kitchen at a physiotherapy practice. So,not having seen Greg’s post, I put it down to lack of ventilation. This was easily sorted by opening the door of an adjoining loo and switching on it’s light/extractor fan!
Hope I don’t have to take it apart soon to look for some ‘orrible busted O-ring. Sounds like you’ve been there before Greg?
BTW how do those condenser units remain cool enough to be effective?

Thanks Seamy. I had already looked at RS & Maplin and couldn’t find anything much like them ❗ They have a bewildering array of stuff but as the originals were 20 years old maybe “they just don’t make ’em like that anymore”.
Meanwhile Chris Penguin sent me some he had so it got sorted nicely.
Thanks to Chris and to UKW for being there. What a great site!

Or p’raps just the contact to it at the motor plug? Especially if it’s one of those insulation displacement terminal type things.
