You can buy an anti-syphon device that you splice into the drain hose. B&Q, :eeek:, sometimes have them. I’ve had one in stock for about 8 years and never had occasion to use it as raising hose usually solves flowback.

ParticipantRe: WASHING MACHINE IS DOING SOMETHING STRANGE!
If the dial continues right through to the 0 end of programme and water comes in at intervals and then drains out, then you’ve probably got a “motor not turning”. This is likely to be the easily repairable “motor brushes worn down” problem. I’m logging off for the weekend but someone will surely enlighten you further should it be necessary.

And they only need about a third as much juice to run. Maybe they could make a more efficient washing machine main motor? Probably not necessary while energy remains so cheap. 😉

ParticipantRe: Candy CE101 – Timer won’t advance
These timers can often be repaired, especially when that is the fault.

Strange indeed. Is it getting the full 240?

ParticipantRe: Miele WT2670 – Good choice ???
I expect the quality of housing in Deutchland is a bit better, even on farms, so Miele haven’t got round to building in anti-rodent features. Maybe someone should talk to them about it.

ParticipantRe: The Pedal Powered washing machine
Alex, I’m impressed by your engineering skill and I hope you find some backing for this.
I can sort of see it being useful in a shanty town type situation where it could provide a launderette living for a semi-retired rickshaw driver. Trouble is most of them would probably be equally capable of making up their own so perhaps it’s the concept you need to try selling not the actual machinery.
How about writing a set of instructions for building it, copyrighted, and printing out copies for sale/distribution.
Meanwhile have you contacted all the intentional communities listed in “Diggers and Dreamers”. I would think a few of them might buy one.
Reckon in a few years time there might be shanty towns springing up here without electricity if we don’t get our act together about energy saving. You should be very successful if that happens.

Not much to go wrong there then. 😈 😛 (Excuse my ignorance, what does Razz mean?)Me, I say “Keep it simple”.

ParticipantRe: Functional Test of Brush Motor
Simmy, you need to find out what the law is in your country regarding safety. Here in the UK we wouldn’t dream of starting up a business in this trade without a “megger”/insulation test meter. 😯 You presumably don’t have much money so why not look for a second hand one? E-bay might have something, although you’d need to get it insured for its transit to you – they’re fragile.
The Haynes manual will probably (my copy is 18 years old so I’m not sure about the new edition) explain why it is important and as it is written for DIY (do it yourself) it will probably give you a DIY way round it which you could use for now.

Interesting site but apparently they don’t reccommend conversion for diesel vehicles which would eliminate quite a few in our trade I imagine.
Still, sounds good if you presently use petrol.

And no, I am quite capable of offering up an opinion on this issue without a promp from Mr Watt.
Chris.
Sorry, Chris. I was only joking about the prompt. I did indeed read your previous posts including the one about straying off topic and I found it confusing that you yourself then went off about 30 degrees. I was quite well aware that I was trying to hijack your thread but as the forum is “off topic” I didn’t feel too guilty about it.
PS Given your species, I’d be intersested to know if you think we should worry about polar ice caps?

Penguin, has Ken had a quiet word in your ear asking you to lead this thread off topic so that that loudmouth “green activist” can be distracted and we don’t have to listen to his ranting? 😆
Seriously though, where do you think all this cheap stuff is leading to? The disposable washing machine perhaps? Bit like the disposable camera – 27 snaps then it gets sent off for processing. Perhaps they could figure out a way to make it 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} recyclable. We’d be out of a job at last and might find the time to look around for something else to do with our lives! 😆

Thanks Alex. Brilliant site. Really useful.
Could even knock a chip off the mighty BT’s profits if enough people use it.

Those girls who push on the edge connectors must have pretty strong fingers if you ask me. The bl**dy things are damn’ difficult to get off without catching yourself on some sharp edge somewhere.
