I think child lock does that. Can’t remember how to release it but it’s probably in the user manual.

    Re: Zanussi Washer Dryer ZWD1471W

If it works as a washing machine then the dryer element is probably OK! If it stops at some point in the washing cycle with start/pause flashing, then it may well have a low insulation problem (<40Mohm) which would most likely be the drier element but with the weather like it is could alternatively be condensation somewhere.
Not too sure if it would work during diagnostics if it was this, but common fault with these driers is a disconnection at the ntc, down the bottom on the right, stuck in the tub-to-condenser hose. Two orange wires – they have a stressful life down there.

    Re: Bosch Washer – WAE24162UK/01

The report from customer of, “not washing and confused programme” probably means just what you found, i.e. no motor action.
It sounds as though there is another fault with the motor, its loom, or possibly the board. I’d be checking for a bad contact at the motor plug first as your “sky high” insulation resistance suggests it may actually be disconnected from the circuit somewhere. If you can work out the circuit or have the info. you could check contnuity from the board end of the motor loom. If all that looks OK, then you just might have a board problem but I would think that extremely unlikely.

Are the clicks the door solenoid opening? Some faults do act that way.
Sort of safety mode to prevent use of machine till fixed. Take the diagnostics pdf pages with you. Had one where recirc. pump was burnt out and had taken triac (a/c switch) out with it.
Not saying it couldn’t be the brushes but more often they stop the motor dead.

    Good luck Chris.
Be prepared for the old brushes still having plenty left on them and, if that is what you find, return here for the info. 😉

Re: Candy/Hoover overheated and melted fleece clothing.

Note to self: Don’t take what customers say too literally.
I was expecting to find a large lump of plastic such as is often seen after a wheelie bin fire. Instead it was just a slightly damaged fleece which had obviously been heated by friction and admittedly was turned to hard plastic in places.
A quick hand in the drum soon confirmed the reason and it was the usual fate which modern Candy are prone to. Oh well, will be more cautious in future. Must be all these threads on exploding washers etc. which got me excited.

Also, when removing drum from cabinet, you will find it necessary to release suspa legs from cabinet base.

As did both those on which I found this fault. I think the Hotpoint was an ACC motor. The damage to the insulation is so tiny it’s not easy to see. And the wires as they pass through the metal of the end frame have only their own insulation between them (IIRC, there’s no grommet or plastic insert) and the earthed metal. It is at high speed that you get the sort of high frequency vibration which makes things move tiny distances like that. You’re thinking of your experience with wiring looms rubbing on concrete.

That is one of the symptoms you get when the 680uf cap fails. Perhaps it is beginning to fail or another cap is. Look for domed top and / or brown gunk emerging.

    Re: Hotpoint WML560 tripping out.

Have had WF series machine where there was a tiny short just where the motor wiring enters the end frame of the motor. That was intermittent too. You don’t find things like that without taking the motor off and really looking closely. Have also had same on Hoover. The fact that tripping is intermittent and occurs on spin is the pointer.

That’s it then. Nothing we can do. Just have to carry on coughing up for as much of this nonsense as they deem necessary to keep the students out of mischief.

It’s hard to find anything that will stick reliably to the rubber used for door seals. I read a few weeks back when I first read about this stuff that it’s just sawdust and silicone mixed together. Or at least that’s what it was initially; might have refined the recipe a bit since it’s become a major seller.
