Something that bugs me a little with that watchdog programme is that the BBC hands over £300 cash of license payers’ money knowing that it will probably not be seen again and will go straight into the rogue’s pocket. Might be a small amount in programme making terms but it’s the principle.
(Or have I remembered wrong and they got it back?)
Makes me even more glad I don’t pay a license.

I’ve had customers get their machines fixed free or replaced up to about 15 months with Comet. I usually advise them to try that route first if it’s a major fault, wherever they bought it.

The treadmill’s easy. It’s the big pcb in the bottom. Only eighty quid or so. The customer orders it from America or somewhere and all you do is plug it in. Saves them £2k for a new machine.
Done the incubator too. Used an ordinary central heating stat.
Always carry tap washers in my tool bag. Owe it to water conservation.
Clean out sink traps now and again and the other day helped a friendly customer remove the old toilet seat. She said I was a

ParticipantRe: Trade pricing…!
Such a thing has so far never happened to me but I live in dread. So the first thing I do whenever an unfamiliar part is needed, I pretend to be a retail punter and find out the score. Google the part number once and you’ll usually get a few results. Open the first 3 or so in new tabs and that should be enough to set your price. It’s amazing what a wide variation in price there is and no one supplier can be relied upon to not be seriously out of kilter with the rest occasionally. Then I have a look at my primary wholesaler and if it’s reasonable I add it to my order. If not, I go to my second preferred and rarely to my third. If it’s a really expensive part, e.g. motor or pcb, I do some searching on e-bay for a used one.
All this, I must emphasise, is only when it is a part with which I am unfamiliar, so it might be one job out of ten that I go to this trouble.

Did you thoroughly check for a bad connection in the motor plug? These insulation displacement terminals can be iffy sometimes. Get out the wooden stick.

Disconnect drier heater wires, then re-try.

A programme just finished on the radio which might be of interest to those thinking about a change. It should be available to listen again later on i-player.

What? Hasn’t he got trade access here then?

ParticipantRe: bbc watchdog
Eh? No I think he’s in Abingdon, which is somewhere in Oxfordshire. EMW is in Oxton Nottinghamshire.
Certainly some rubbish wording on his site though. That’s probably why he has to charge so much; because few people are conned into calling him.

ParticipantRe: PRIMA/WHIRLPOOL DISHWASHER PCB ?
There’s a control board on Connect that’s supposed to fit LPR600 8545 600 15866
You need to check it out yourself on mediator as it looks complicated with maybe only unprogrammed board available.

Strange fault that. Have you seen it for yourself? I’ve had one where the machine would fill, start washing, or rinsing, then go straight to drain and once drained open the door (clunk clack). That one was a burnt out recirculation pump which had also taken out a small ac switch on the board. So I would suggest look see if recirculation pump is either dead or intermittent.
Also see this.

Open circuit heater has same effect, IIRC.

Thanks Alex, I thought she must’ve got that bit wrong. She certainly wouldn’t have got anywhere if she hadn’t asked! Most would just assume the one year g’tee was final.

Should I ring and tell her to make sure the S/F guy has plenty of room to work in and tea on tap?

Well, I wasn’t seriously considering going for that one anyway, as I’m pretty sure it couldn’t be used to fix the ZWD12070WI that’s in my in-tray.
Looking at the pics, it appeared to me that the drum lip was too close to the bottom outer lip and there appeared to be some space visible at the top left corner of the “smile” (pic 4). However, I’m not so sure, after looking again at pic 2.
And wrt my customer’s 12070, that’s what I logged in for, as I’m just about to put a query in GTF.

Dunno but that’s a Z918T and he’s using molegrips on the door seal 😕 .
Perhaps that’s what he looked like in 1988?
