    Re: comet…again!!!

I know its really bad to see these guys benefit from comet going down but they would have gone to the wall 7 months ago if they had not rescued it so all in all the staff have bad a few more months.

    Re: comet…again!!!

In all likelihood Comet will go, I see no benefit in anyone saving them apart for the staff, I just don’t see anyone making a massive risk like this.

The bigger question is what next, this really changes the domestic appliance sales on the high street, ignoring independents now its DSG and Argos, and if you want to see it in person it’s Currys/Dixons only.

Bad for everyone really, few rummers are Maplins are considering entering the marked for white goods but I don’t see it being something they would go down the road with.

I remember when Best Buys opened in the UK and everyone said it would change everything, look where that went.

The sad fact is I always found Comet great. Far better than DSG.

Re: ariston ald12uk wash cycle goes on for over 4 hours

Is it actually finishing the cycle with out intervention ?, if its taking longer but finishing do you know what part of the wash is taking the longest.

The way these work is they basically split each part of the wash into tasks and won’t move on or can add time to a specific part should it believe it has not completed what it needs to do

It like a mechanical timer and won’t move on until its ready.

Its unlikely to add time to every part of the wash, it got to be a specific part. Normally it’s heating that adds the most time, often hours. If the heater is good what about the NTC, of it believes its cold then I will just keep adding time.

Also have you done an IR check, seen low IR cause strange stuff as well.

People often look at me as if I’m mad when I’m smashing my hand against the front top trying to release it. Easiest way is a straight edge screwdriver between the metal back and lid and prise it back.

But more often than not its the palm.

    Re: comet…again!!!

Funny enough I went I our local For a chat to the guys today and they were removing all the Dyson, hover candy stuff, all the Indesit stuff still on display but may not have got to them yet. All going back to central warehouse I was told.

As you said the guys have been told to expect to carry on as normal for the short term. All commission has been suspended and they are all on basic wage but have been guaranteed payment. Not that that’s worth anything.

Got to feel for them. I’m often sorting a broken display model or a returned to store for them.

One thing I noticed was nothing was on sale, everything standard price, but it was very busy. Also security there as well

A rumour I was told then they were sold last time was they owed Indesit around £2m and an agreement was made that if Indesit took one a number of there field service guys they would guarantee payment. Indesit have taken between 150 and 200 of the x comet guys, don’t know if they were paid though.

All ill say on the brackets is more about containment in the event of failure rather than preventing it, they are now fitted to all new machines and retrofitted to older models.

Well that’s not my experience. As I have said I have seen one first hand. Spoke with Field support and they passed it onto a dedicated team in CSD, they uplifted the machine and repaired the damaged,

Sounds like straight forward asset stripping. Considering the large impact this will have on the public and staff perhaps the government should have a poke about in there business

I guess it’s Game & Game Station next.

This is a massive blow for the consumer , basically its now DSG in the high street and Argos. Bad for everyone.

The staff I feel for. I know Indesit took on a large number of the service engineers when comet got rid of them, around 200 I believe, this was to continue to do the Comet Insurance work but I guess that insurance is now dead as well? It’s possible Indesit my also need to layoff as a result of this.

No one wants or deserves to be made unemployed less than 60 days before Christmas.

    Very sad

Sorry 3ph I take it, Iv not stuck the model in the system. From what your saying I’d go with board, if its not finishing then starting again then I bet the board is getting stuck when spinning , possalbe EPROM program issue. My money if its 3 phase and EVO 2 is its the c00254298 or the 530 board.

They do some strange stuff at times.

    Re: Watchdoggin

Iv worked with Indesit on and off for years, I have seen 1 of these blown machines in person, yes it’s a mess and its not good but these things happen, this fault only seems to happen to a very small number of machine all well out of warranty. People can slag Indesit off for making cheap crap but engineers moaning because they are not the easiest or most profitable machines to work on. Remember you only see the ones that brake. Iv seen just as many that are at 4 years old and I’m there in the first fault as the ones under G12.

The simple fact is this has only come to light a number of years after they were built, no one has a crystal ball, its impossible to predict this may have happened, a weld on a seem is failing after prolonged use, it’s nothing to do with cost cutting or poor design.

Whilst people like to throw wood on the fire just look at Toyota, once the worlds largest car make, not a cheap brand or low cost brand. They have issued an unprecedented number of recalls on there cars in the last 2 years. Is this because they build cheap crap?

The simple answer is If you produce a product there is always a risk that these type of things may happen.

Indesit are offering to inspect every machine that could be affected by this, if there is a problem they will replace the tank or machine.

Based on what Iv seen I see no issue with this.

Re: Hotpoint WMF760 stuck on 1 minute?

Yep, worth checking the brushes though. basically if anything is giving the module strange readings or has low IR they tend to throw a wobbly. I see at least 1 a week doing the same thing.

a question though, does it perform the full spin the slow down as if to finish then go back into the spin again or does it just do one long continuous spin forever ?

There is never a single guarantee cause its just a matter of checking everything, for instance if there is something in the sump the pressure switch still reads as if its got water in and continues to spin until that water is removed even though the water will have drained.

Sometimes these electronics do very odd stuff. Iv got an HP Aqualtis I’m working on that’s giving an F5 blocked pump error at the end of the bed and bath cycle only. The machine does its full spin then finishes as if its about to release the door then gives F5, water all drained and clothing fully spun. It only gives this error on that program and only at the end. It’s had new boards, pump, pressure sw and harnesses. Next is sump as we think the OKO ball may be sticking. No one can understand why it’s doing it but it is.

Re: Hotpoint WMF760 stuck on 1 minute?

Iv seen a few do this and it can be a number of things.

    Check the below

    Pump and sump is clear

I had one doing the same and the pump was fine but there was a sock in the sump,

    Check Motor brushes are fine

If these are good it could be the board but I had one last year that threw 2 engineers. It would get to 1m then constantly go back into spin, We changed the board, motor , pressure switch and it still did it, in the end we changed the pump and it was fine after that. To this day we still don’t know why it was doing it with the old pump as it was draining fine.
