    Re: ISE and Wessex FM

Sorry to butt in chaps 😉 but was wondering what the score is on getting machines delivered direct to customers. I dont have any premises, just work from my house, & of course live in the middle of nowhere!
I really would like to support the ISE cause & help drag the market back in the direction we all would like to see it heading as engineers. Trouble is, i’m not sure how many customers i could convert given this is a fairly modest wage area.
Also, i kinda have a lingering reluctance to get ‘tied’ to machines, knowing human nature, some people would think they own your soul if they gave you a few hundred quid :rolls:
    Any thoughts ? 🙂

Would be checking motor & everything else for earth leakage, those motors seem prone to it i have found.

    Re: Free Estimate.

I’m finding more & more chancers taking advantage of a diagnosis you might give them over the phone. Had two fairly recently, one phoned my mobile when i was half way to the job, apparently i was right about his cold fan oven :rolls: (clever i am) & he just wanted to buy an element now.
Still, at least he had the decency to call, turned up to a house last week only to be met with closed curtains, no answer to door, no answer to phone, hav’nt heard from them since.
I can only assume my advice that a simple blockage on her Hotpoint was likely, was correct 😯 I’ll call again to try to extract the callout but i dont rate my chances frankly.
I dunno what to do to combat this trend though, you try to be open & helpful & a minority ruin it by taking the absolute p*ss 🙁

    Re: Free Estimate.

Be in no doubt there will always be a HUGE percentage of the general public who are more than happy to see you running around using very expensive fuel & not getting paid for it, & thats leaving aside the waste of your time.

No, they expect to get paid when they’re at their work i would imagine, so why the hell should’nt we? 😯

    Re: Whirlpool Washing Machine Drum

Fair point Jim, & i certainly dont like the idea of a machine just past its 2nd birthday getting scrapped either, Indesit group’s or not.
When i was at my customers house she did say that if i thought she could expect more than 2 years out of a replacement drum, i.e if Indesit have improved its design to give a longer life, then she might just call them.

I told her i could’nt say for sure & its a question she would have to put to them, but given this company’s prime reason for existing, PROFIT! i said i would seriously doubt it. :rolls:

I think thats my main gripe with the move to sealed drums, i mean we know they’re all gonna be at it soon & i dont think a few of us bitchin on UKW will change that, but IF the quality of the bearings & seal fitted to these drums allowed a life of seven or eight years at least, & we all know thats possible, then i would’nt have such a issue with them.

Improving bearing/seal life would of course wipe out the savings made on the move to welded tubs.. aint gonna happen is it ? 👿

    Re: Whirlpool Washing Machine Drum

I would have thought 6 months guarantee would apply to a domestic machine being used in a non domestic environment steve, i may be wrong though.
An extreme case to be sure, when will people learn not to seek advice from the average member of sales staff found creeping around a shed floor :rolls:

To answer your point Jim, my customer was well aware of Indesit group’s splendid £99 all in repair offer, but had no intention of throwing good money after bad. I had basically told her over the phone her machine would more than likely need a new drum, but she wanted me out to install a new ceramic hob anyway, so my diagnosis cost her nothing.
I am TOTALLY honest with my customers & always have been, i simply wont work any other way, & i’d sooner not have someone who does not know me implying otherwise. You do Indesits bidding if you wish, i would rather not reward a company which produces such flawed products.

Re: LG washing machine drum bearings.

I find most LG owners happy to spend a reasonable amount on their machines as they usually like them.
Supply & fit bearings usually gets me £80/£90 on an LG, only if no spider required of course. Nice to work on a machine thats actually designed to be repaired.. WELL DONE SOUTH KOREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Whirlpool Washing Machine Drum

Yep, they’re appearing in large numbers now i’ve noticed, failures at under 3 years becoming for many makes 🙁 Latest one i was called to was a WF Hotpoint, 2 years & 4 months old. Customer claimed once a day use & denied overloading. ( Dont they all :rolls: )
Anyway, she was seriously pissed off that a new machine was needed already & insisted i gave her a list of machines that have bearings which you can actually replace…it was a short list :rolls:

I think the implications for our trade from these sealed tubs are pretty grave, i mean think about it, if the lifespan of machines is now getting close to 3 years, how many brush changes, pumps, door seals, valves etc are we gonna get calls for in that time? Very few i would say.
The sheer waste of materials & energy goes without saying of course.

I simply cant believe manufacturers can get away with this, i mean is there no independent body overseeing this sort of designed in profiteering & putting a stop to it? I know we’ve had a few threads on this very subject before, but it surely needs addressing?

As far as i remember they’re the same apart from colour.. handy when you get the customer complaining about ‘that lifter you fitted a couple of months ago’ :rolls:

    Re: Doh!

Had an LG machine on Monday which the owner had thrown money at buying a pressure sw, door seal & god knows what else to cure an intermittent overfill/leak fault.
The clue, had he thought about it, was it continuing to fill on 2 occasions despite being switched off at the wall! Answers on a postcard.. :rolls:

Anyway, i didnt wind him up too much cos i must admit i’m a terrible chap for fiddling with things i know not much about myself.. the secret is knowing where to stop though 🙂

3 jobs yesterday, literally nothing in today 😯 Looks like the dog is gonna get an excellent long walk tomorrow to pass the day.
Notice there has been a definite hike in retail prices on whites from all the major players since the jan sales ended & i had hoped this would lead to a pickup in repair rates ❓
Oh well, no point worrying, nothing much we can do. :rolls:
