ParticipantRe: Hotpoint dishwashers fires
Is it the heater relay on the board causing the issue does anyone know ?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WML 520P no heat
Probably where it’ll end up ,although I have had luck replacing the common 12v 5 pin relays used on this board I’m not convinced thats the problem, absolutely no sign of overheating.

I find that’s how it goes these days, quite often dead for a couple of weeks, and then a bunch comes in over a few days and I cant do it all, sometimes even turning work away 😯I still love being self employed and in control of my own day, but the chicken feed money coming in compared to 20 years ago gets depressing 🙁

Thanks for the reply Jem, yeah, had a look over the caps and whatnot, I think if it came to trying to replace chips i’d have to pass as my eyesight is too middle aged now 😉

ParticipantRe: Late model Hotpoint washer dryer, any known recalls?
Was all set to but it was stuck into the alloy with a red high temp sealant of some sort.
The customer was minded to push Indesit for a new machine -slim chance of that no doubt- but I didnt want to spoil her chances so left the thing as I found it. 😉Eddie

stratfordgirl wrote:The most likely scenarios are that the NTC has deteriorated so it is under reading the drum inlet air temperature or the PCB heater relay has stuck on. Either way, the element’s built-in cut out is not working satisfactorily, either due to poor design or faulty manufacture.
Yep, wish I’d taken time to test the NTC just to satisfy my curiosity,a relay sticking is another thought that crossed my mind.
The older style thermal bead externally mounted TOC’s were pretty reliable but were no doubt dropped by Indesit for the usual reason they change anything…the bottom line :rolls:Some things need to be right though, thermal protection especially, the thing was still heating when the customer smelled the burning plastic smell and switched it off.
She said she would phone me once Indesit came out.
Will be interesting to hear how they play it 😉

ParticipantRe: Late model Hotpoint washer dryer, any known recalls?
As I said, the dryer element on the one I looked at was definitely not open circuit so if a TOC was indeed fitted in line with it it had not done its job.
I tried disconnecting the dryer element and taping up the spades to give the customer some peace of mind that the damn thing couldn’t possibly heat, but the panel lit up like a christmas tree in response to the open circuit it detected.
I didn’t test the NTC for a resistance change with a heat source so I’m not sure if thats to blame or is it the panel not responding to the NTC for whatever reason.
The paddles were MELTED I assure you! Like someone had gone at them with a blowtorch. Just the front of them though, proving the hot air must have been the cause.
I might try to upload a pic I took of one of the paddles if I can get my ancient Nokia to speak to my laptop 😕

The TOC on the one I looked at must have hung on far too long then! How hot must that air have been exiting the duct to melt the front third of all 3 paddles!?
The heater still had a circuit through it 😯Nasty pieces of junk to be sure.

ParticipantRe: Electrolux Porcia
I hadn’t realised Electrolux bought Zanussi quite as far back as 1984 😯 It’s a pity they (Electrolux) didn’t hold their nerve and keep the quality up on Zanussi badged products, they had a superb reputation in their Z9 washcraft era.Still very occasionally do a door handle. bearings or capacitor on these even now!
Of course the owners usually ask you what they can replace it with when it finally does become just too old to keep…’Another Zanussi?’ they usually enquire. 😥
Why do large companies always try to max the numbers of units through the door above all else? there will always be someone who can produce poor quality tat cheaper. Always. If they were producing a modern washcraft today, of comparible quality but with a larger drum and higher spin speed, properly fixable with an easy 15 year lifespan like the old ones, I think they would have kept a very loyal customer base throughout Europe over the years.

Cheers Don. ended up trying Maplins and they had an equivalent for a couple of quid. JM67X if anyone else needs the same 😉

Yeah it’s been really bad for nutters this Christmas I’ve noticed, and there’s still a few coming in now.
Maybe it’ll settle down come February, can but hope 🙁

Really sounds like a blockage to me Mike. Pump starts to run but then creates a low pressure spot so stops for a moment until the pressure equalizes.
Had a whirlpool integrated recently with exactly the same problem, although I could hear the sump press sw clicking.Eddie.

ParticipantRe: Went to work in my pyjamas…
Yeah, its a slippery slope, you need to charge something regardless of how close they are.
If they’re friends it’s more difficult it must be said, some of our friends are very grateful for work I do for them and insist on paying something, some just totally take the p*ss and often dont even pay me for the bloody parts! 👿
