ParticipantRe: cheapest trade supplier?
I agree with Ken you got to shop around for then best prices and availability, bit of a time consuming pain in the ar*e though.
Example. LG door seal last week, Parts Centre Β£45+, Connect Β£35+, Seme Β£16 ish in stock. Seme won the prize! π Though it does puzzle me why such a variance, I know some wholesalers will get a better price on quantity (as do we) but this door seal example does smack at a bit of profiteering :rolls:

You are probably right with the expansion/contraction especially if the appliance works OK. π

Ditto, the ring was worth Β£3000 π― The tight bitch didn’t even offer me Β£20 to keep my mouth shut. I could have got a fair wack of her insurance as finders fee if I had reported it. π₯ I still work for her occasionally, bit extra on the invoice of course π
I once took a heavy gold chain out of a machine that I got in as scrap, posted it back by recorded delivery to the owner, never a word of thanks of her π₯ It makes you think that honesty doesn’t pay.

Bosch electronics are fairly robust :rolls: You may be right about the brushes, I have noticed this happening occasionally probably down to high resistance usually as the top end of the spin starts to pick up.

ParticipantRe: DOMESTIC APPLIANCES LIFESPAN AND GLOBAL WARMING
Interesting thread, but no one has mentioned the Government both British and European. They are now on the “environmental” bandwagon BUT in reality they are only doing lip service to the problem. Why.
Firstly the manufacturing of appliances creates massive income for them VAT etc.
Secondly the workforce of whichever country is doing the manufacturing is in employment, again paying taxes.
They are quite happy to continue collecting revenue.
If machines were to be made to the reliable standard that they were not to many years ago and not the “under engineered” crap that is being presented to the public today then all would be hunky-dory, BUT this is not go in to happen in the short term.
I am afraid that the damage has been done with the public mentality, it will take a long time to convince them that appliances need to be made to last longer than two to three years that they currently believe. Engineers and businesses, both “company and individuals” should influence them that something should be done, instead of “bolstering” the idea of a chuck away society. Unfortunately Joe public think they are doing their bit for re-cycling by collecting a few plastic bags and their empty wine bottles :rolls: . IT isnβt enough.
Until the governments the public and us do something about this it will continue to be a problem. How about writing to your MP? Just address your letter to him/her at the House of Commons. Next time one of your customers complains, ask them why donβt they do something about it, and suggest the MP route. Finally the crap that was written about independent call/repair charges creating the problem is totally rubbish, and should be ignored, we all know they reasons why things are staring to go βpear shapedβ in this industry, our charges are considerably less than the manufactures.
