Re: bosch WAQ series washing machine

Slowly ever slowly the industry is turning the once fixable into the only disposable. Across all brands the story is the same, buy, use, bin. No point in shelling out loads of wonga, just buy what suits and when the wheels fall of buy another.

The repair trade is up in arms over the situation and rightly so but there’s no point in arguing otherwise. ISE was a lesson to us all. Top end machines are only the preserve of those that can well afford, the remaining 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} buy cheap.

I have just entered my 4th year of Appliance Engineering.

May we ask what your current job entails exactly? Appliance engineering is a very generalised term after all.

In answer to your question, there is a wealth of reference books you can take out of your local library covering every single aspect you seek. I suggest you take advantage of this for free, you can borrow the books for up to 5 months (you will need to renew every month though to retain them). Basic electrical and electronic theory covering all sorts of applications including domestic appliances.

Well the error code was indeed the motor fault so you might try disconnecting the motor plug and try resetting again? You may need to carry out several resets with the motor plug connected and disconnected.

Giving us the model number would help enormously. 😉

I suspect that at this stage you haven’t actually checked the triac? Usually it will shows signs of damage (i e. Its top blown off!).

The bearing and seal kit is £47, the drum & shaft assy is £115. BSH would never replace one without the other. It is a costly job and I would always advise BER in a case like this. For BSH to charge a £95 call out for doing f-all is however, taking the piss! 😯

I’ve just purchased a Miele WDA101 which is one of the cheapest washers they do…

What are people’s opinions of the cheaper Miele stuff?

    Very good

Supercharged wrote:Are they fairly serviceable if required – i.e. drums not sealed like most cheap machines these days?

    Yes of course.

Supercharged wrote:I know these are meant to be bullet proof reliable but the only thing that worries me is that being a new A+++ model it maybe has an induction motor and that could be very expensive if it goes wrong – can anyone confirm this?

The motor won’t fail you but of course it’s a Miele so any and all parts are extemely expensive.

Supercharged wrote:What about service manuals etc – are these available to those in the trade or Miele techs only?

Not a chance, Miele techs only. 😕

I guess ladies will have no problem sitting on the machine to control its vibes. But ultimately a replacement the best option if they tire of its tantrums.

Thanks for the update Evren 😉

Re: Restraining Strap Attached Between Shocker and Drum?

Yes the very old Electra (Creda made) machines did have that safety strap. Most likely the shock absorbers have weaked by now and need replacing and that’s the reason why that strap has snapped.

Re: Bosch Dishwasher not draining – not trying hard enough

Where does the drain hose outlet terminate? If it shares the sink drain then you need to check that that isn’t blocked.

Oh dear, this could be the actual control module (part no: 00498316) itself that has broken and would have to be replaced as a whole. Costly too at over £120 to replace. 😕

Unless somehow you can release the jammed button ?

Re: Bosch Dishwasher not draining – not trying hard enough

It does sound like the pump needs replacing. Carefully fill machine with around 4 litres of water and start a cycle. Then press the reset and it should drain all the water. If it doesn’t then, unless the drain hose outlet is blocked, the pump must be faulty.
