Good heavens…YES! (AEG are Zanussi, which are also a fine brand by the way)

In all fairness to Hotpoint soupy you have to agree they are trying to help you out of this problem and their legal obligations have been fulfilled…..Great!

I personally would now take it just one little step further by suggesting you ask the retailer who supplied it you in the first place, for your money back. 😉

Or (to save upsetting them and loosing your business as it wasnt their fault after all) ask them to supply a better brand of machine and that you are willing to stump up the difference?

Well worth a go and the best way out of your washday blues I reckon

N.B Once the guarantee expires on your Hotpoint you are on your own! 😉

    artee,

Sounds like you have truly ‘run your machine into the ground’ here 🙁

Usually the front drum support wears quite quickly on these beasts and that accounts for your engineer guy messing with its alignment.

So now the drum is flapping about inside in all directions and no doubt attributes to it cutting out and stopping….OH DEAR!

    Diagnosis therefore = Clapped!
Prognosis therefore = You will likely accept his advise and go out and buy a BOSCH. 🙂

That guy (engineer) got it right first time 😀

Main drum bearings shot I expect tuffty?

Is it the least bit noisy if you spin the empty drum by hand? Or if the inner drum shows signs of lateral movement?

Re: Safety Issue on Hotpoint Dishwashers

A Trading Standards Officer came to see me today over the issue and will now be taking up the case. He elaborated on his extensive knowledge of electrical safety standards and requirements and the current legislation including mentioning “the finger test!”* etc etc.

He was very alarmed by the facts presented to him and felt the issue needed looking into urgently. He promised faithfully to email me as and when a satisfactory solution is sought.

(He also had some good news for Pat-UK (but that’s another story 😉 )

    * “If you can touch live wires of an appliance (without using tools to access those wires) with your little finger” the manufacturer is in breach of EC Safety Standards (and UK ones too!) 👿

Probably the Timer? There is a mod kit depending on its ‘Date Code’ 😉 (B/4 Date Code 11 = 1702508 After DC10 = 1702472).

    Bob,

Are you reading what I’m writing here? The wires are LIVE as long as it remains plugged into a wall socket OK? I must add that I am indebted to you for pointing this issue out and have grasped the baton on behalf of yourself and many others here reading this thread and I will see it forward to a successful conclusion hopefully. Realising all the while of exposing myself somewhat as a ‘whistleblower’ to the subject, with or without UKW’s intervention! 🙄

bobokines wrote:it might not contravene any safety rules

Are you kidding? Full access to bare wires and working components and no panel or safety barrier between the user and the appliance? Go reckon!

Think about your question first Bob?

The wires enter from the base (at the rear) THEN they go up into the door cavity!

Of course they will be live! 😉

Re: Safety Issue on Hotpoint Dishwashers

True to my word I ventured into Comet’s superstore in Reading this morning and took these pictures of Indesit machines:

The machines in question are Indesit IDL500UK.2 and IDL530UK which feature at the lower end of the product range. The other models up the range have the same exposed front panel yet the have fibre sound insulation material immediately behind the baseframe.

Also in the same showroom was a full range of Hotpoint branded machines and they too were identical to the Indesit but ALL had the fibre insulation behind the baseframe. In ALL CASES one could easily reach inside (beyond the fibre insulation) and touch part or parts of the exposed wiring harness and certain in-line connector blocks!

These machine are all 60 cm models and I did not find any problems with the 45 cm (slimline) range in the showroom. 🙄

Now you may also be interested to know that I have reported my findings to the Reading Trading Standards Office, who will be investigating the matter in more detail. They will no doubt contact me in this regard and I will report back to you any developments 😉

No Bob never spotted this anomaly before, good heavens! I will visit a local ‘shed’ this morning to see if I can spot and photograph others.

That should make for a good “REVIEW” expose’ 😉
