ParticipantRe: another oldie
Went to one of those last November (blown capacitor). Never seen one before, at the time it was hidden behind curtains under the sink drainerboard. The old girl dragged it out whilst I was scratching my head in disbelief as to what the hell I had taken on! Once I took the side panel off and checked it out, I was amazed at it’s Brick Outhouse build quality and ease of maintenance.
Those were the days eh?

Indeed so sir, in fact we have done just that so far 🙂
spbaldock wrote: I actually want to be able to make relatively simple repairs.
This problem is not in any way classed as such and my advice stands.
spbaldock wrote: It might be a hassle but I’d rather learn something which I can then do again than have to rely solely on other people.
This is not a learning forum/site. We give advice and help to all that post but one cannot assume ones individual abilities or capabilities to effect a repair safely and correctly. It is unwise and irresponsible of anyone in my position to offer continued advice to anyone that may be considered as needing professional assistance. I urge you to follow my advice 😉

andy2 wrote:Repairman to nice lady – Sorry but it’s a Candy with a Hoover badge’
Perhaps for Repairman it would be more accurate to explain to Nice Lady that her genuine Hoover branded machine is remarkably similar to a Candy and made somewhere within the EU by the Hoover Candy Group of companies.
It is not a ‘rebadged’ machine in this case but 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Hoover rubbish. And it would be unfair to associate it with Candy who have for many years before the acquisition of Hoover from Maytag in 1993 have been market leaders in the art of producing cheap shoddy products to the masses!
Very recently this established Italian culture caught the attention of the Merloni brothers who beat Candy S.p.a to the bidding and takeover of GDA Hotpoint. And in a mountaintop villa north of Milano the phone rang one evening during dinner telling Francesco and his brother Antonio they had successfully acquired GDA………”BELISIMO!”
…….the rest of the story is unfolding as I type :rotfl:

spbaldock wrote:Does anyone know where you can get a narrow(er) socket?
With the greatest respect, if you don’t have the basic tools or indeed know where to get them, I venture to suggest at this point you should get an expert in to fix it for you. It will save you all the hastle and you could have your dryer up and running by this time tomorrow 😉

Here’s an article that may help clarify your situation Tubs :-
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … c&start=15It is not good news for the retailer though I’m afraid as the consumer has greater rights towards refunds, exchanges and compensation 🙁

Penguin45 wrote:it is possible that the hose can droop below the level of the pump housing inlet – this will airlock the pump
To confirm this theory either way simply allow the machine to fill then take the filter cap off! If your floor floods in seconds…then the hose is OK 😆

ParticipantRe: Can Hotpoint get any worse
Easy on the ‘Brand Names’ guys. No company (not even Indesit) would allow themselves open to being accused of deception? Currently if one was to buy a Hotpoint for example then a Hotpoint is what one gets.
Now on the issue of acquisition of brand names? Again they do not hide anything from anyone, and after all it is just a name. What you really are getting at is brand recognition based on reputation’? Now that is a different thing altogether. And on that issue alone, unless the product comes up to the purchasers expectations albeit on brand name recognition alone, unless it fulfills their criteria, then in the big bad world of commerce and consumerism, only the good survive. 😉
Since Rolls Royce Motor Cars was taken over by BMW, they have increased their overall sales. Good quality has never slipped during that takeover at least. Had Indesit (a FIAT sponsored company by the way) bought Rolls Royce instead…who knows what would have transpired?

ParticipantRe: salt for dishwasher
Certainly…perfect stuff, especially in Tablet form (easier to handle).
Locally (Basingstoke) 25kg is £4.95 a bag so shop around (under Salt Suppliers) for better prices. Avoid Garden Centres and Garages though as I’ve seen it as much as £11.50 !!!!! 👿

jackster wrote:Forgive me but i am pretty new to the trade and was wondering what ‘partfinder’ is?
No need to apologise Chay, Partfinder is a CD Rom based parts list you can purchase directly from Indesit/Hotpoint. A new version has just come out but sadly it’s £65 + VAT* so far from cheap 😥 They only last 12 months too if you’re lucky, so an expensive nesessity for many of us that wish simply to identify and purchased all the Indesit produced spares. 😈
*Few things in life are free I realise, but for some that want us to buy their products, they is just taking the **** by charging for it ❗

ParticipantRe: Bosch brush beware!
Today I got to a call that needed carbons and ‘Sods Law on a Monday morning’ came into play here as I had run out of genuine 154740 brushes 😯
But I did have a ‘pattern’ pair that was given to me as a free sample from a very kind and prominent wholesaler (Part No BS12103 😉 ) and managed to fit them albeit having to adopt a ‘soldered in place’ technique rather than the ‘bodge it to lodge it in place’ method to prevent them from falling out (which they would have done otherwise). But, I’m not one to look a gift-horse in the mouth so to speak and wish to express my gratitude to them for the parts (I owe you a beer at least on this Andy).
Nevertheless, whilst it got me out of jail, again I have to say that with this type of carbon brush, only genuine fits.
