Re: Hotpoint washing machine – Size of problem

Your Hotpoint WF840 does indeed take in hot water as and when it is required, usually only on the high temperature programmes though. Most 40degree washers these days will fill with 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} cold 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} hot (approx).

    Elaine,

Give Ariston a ring and get yourself a replacement ‘User Booklet’ for your model of machine, the number is on the attached link below: –

The most likely (and common for this model) thing is that the motor has burnt out. Although you finding the glass very hot may well be something else 😕

Without an expert checking it out it is difficult to know at this point I guess. Cost to replace a motor in the region of £120 (inclusive) and that being the worst senario 🙁

…and perhaps a little bit more info in ‘Public Help’ on Diplomat Error Codes 💡 at least those that possibly are contained in the ‘User instructions’ (If there is such a publication?)

Many queries come about from those who have found one of these gadgets in their recently purchased house/flat. The previous owners glad to leave the machine behind to a bemused ‘third party’ 🙂

    Fran,

The only way you can ‘hide’ your washing machine within the kitchen furniture is to fit a double cupboard door in front of the machine and instal 180degree hinges.

The problem usually against this though is that the depth of the machine prohibits you from going behind a modern 60cm deep standard kitchen furniture. 🙁

Alex wrote:This begs a question, is this due to the product? or the service being poor?

Neither really considering the product outsells most on any High Street by a factor of almost 5 to 1. 🙁 So there will always be a high percentage of Merloni based queries on this site. Usually though, like the product, from people wanting something for nothing!!!… Merloni will always provide that by the same factor I reckon 😆 😆

Most Bosch/Siemens Seals are tricky to get from local Bearing Suppliers, but these guys in Rotherham may be able to help?

    Stripe,

I can only think it possibly a ‘Time Out’ error? Do check the rate at which the machine drains out as I suspect the long hose from the pump to the drain coupling may well be restricted with crud and limescale???

Other than that I would recommend getting an expert in to check it out 😉

gary38 wrote:i notice that it does the water softener program last after all the washes was just trying to figure out what’s its doing.

    Gary,

Water Softeners work by flushing salt (Sodium) through an Ion Exchanger. The Ion Exchanger is full of special resins which are ‘charged’ by the sodium. As water passes through the charged ions, this attracts the Calcium Ions out of the hard water.

At the end of each dishwasher cycle, salt is flushed into the Ion Exchanger ready for the next wash……..simple but very effective!

Always keep the Salt reservoir topped up with Salt Granuals, Salt Tablets or Dendritic salt granuals. 😉

P.S Those “3 in 1 Tablets” unlike Ronseal DO NOT DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN 🙁

kwatt wrote:Now Comet wants a machine at that price point or lower and the downward spiral begins. 😕

Exactly right! That has been the situation for 20 or 30 years now, the likes of Comet putting the pressure on manufacturers. They demand cheap, easy to shift, maximum profit goods. They realise also the fallibility of the goods they are selling by offering lucrative ‘insurance’ policies to maximise their profits even further 🙁

Costco, Tesco, Sainsburys and others are shifting ‘Brand Name’ whitegoods now with a ‘markup’ in single figures (i.e. less than 3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}) in order to get on the bandwagon. Manufacturers therefore have a hard time keeping up with the present demand. They are also looking to reducing their massive overheads by buying raw materials outside of EU control AND currently building factories (abroad) to reduce labour costs.

That is the current situation, downward spiral it indeed is, and one in which we have no say or control. The up-shot of all this will eventually be dictated by the general public, ‘voting with their feet’ and demanding better quality goods. Perhaps the latter comment being wishful thinking though 🙁

I have always maintained that the retailers ‘call the tune’ and that the manufacturers are therefore forced to comply. The major retailers are then at liberty to sell the general public any old cr@p on their terms. Quality does not enter the frame, purely quantity the dictate.

What is needed to sort out the situation is for the government to step in and legislate over the serious issue of goods being sold “not of merchantable quality”. Furthermore to reinforce the retailers “6 year rule” ❗

    IMHO

    Thanks for the info Furhan.

Apparently the pressure switches can give a number of probs (even new ones 😥 )

    Keep us posted thanks 😉

P.S. Don’t you just love the way Manufacturers own engineers have little idea what is wrong with these things. BUT they have the advantage of chucking loads of new parts in ’em till they work. No expense spare and no friggin’ clue what they’re at 😆 😆 😆

Well actually this model will likely have a ‘Display Unit’. To reset these (I think) you need to press and hold the ‘Programme Start’ button for 3 to 5 seconds. That should clear the previous programme setting on the display (hopefully) 🙂

    Re: Indesit WE12 error F12

It may be a faulty circuit board or connection to it type problem. )The error actually means that the display board and control module are not talking to one another 😥 )

Try ‘Resetting’ the machine (see user instructions) and try again. 🙂

Also if you need to reply, please give us the FULL model number as there are 2 variants of this baby 😉
