I`ve tried every button option…no joy!

I was only joking about Specsavers as you no doubt realise. But nonetheless I do urge you look again at the control panel. For your continued convenience I attach a copy of the actual user manual.

The spin button is right next to the start button and below the display. (Book an appointment at Specsavers ASAP 😆 )

Looking at the parts schematic it appears to clip in place from the inside. But to unclip it you would have to remove all the fan unit and stuff above it to the release the lugs. Check out the drawing and you’ll see what I mean. And the part number has changed to 00499649.

    HTH? 🙂

Could just relate to a connection problem so you’ll need to go inside and check. Beware, it’s 240 volts in there so power disconnected first. :plug:

Most probably the fan unit bearings are dry and seizing? A squirt of 3 in 1 or WD40 may be all that’s required?

Oh fuff! I was quoting from the manual on the assumption there was an anti-flood device fitted. But since your reply I have checked and it doesn’t have one! (Double fuff).

OK, next brainwave from me is maybe the analogue pressure switch system is playing up? (Blocked air pressure chamber, that sort of area?)…..where is nomadPaul when you need him anyway. 😉

Then check the anti-flood device carefully

You did’nt give us the ENr number of the machine. 😕

But anyway a triac has blown so all you need do it trace the wiring to the component the triac switches to find the offender. Then replace BOTH.! Ouch! Pricey I should’nt wonder. 😮

Replacing that NTC will likely cure the error I would think.

The magnet on the tacho unit has probably fallen off? Take a close look at the other end of the motor (opposite side to drive pulley) There is a small electric generator (Tacho) and chances are it has either fallen apart or the magnet cracked off the shaft.

They are fine as machines go. The one causing all your frustration is a conventional Zanussi, not new at all. I appreciate your getting angry over not finding the solution. Happens to us all every now and then.

In this case, yes you fitted suspect brushes but maybe, just maybe the motor was knackered anyway? A couple of blown segments perhaps? Who knows? We can only guess. It only takes one faulty component like that motor for the program to throw up all kinds of erroneous error codes. Sh- it happens but don’t lose faith in Zanussi’s, Hotpoint yes not Zanussi’s they are great money makers.

What I’ve learnt from this thread is that certain Qualtex brushes are duff. That’s a new one on me and I must keep my good eye on that in future :rolls:

goodlv wrote:the only thing I can do is clean that , anything else?

Actually no, that won’t help any as that is the ‘burner’ unit and not the gas jet that supplies the fuel. The only thing you can do to the burner unit is regulate the air flow to establish the correct ‘gas to air ratio’ to maintain an even blue coloured flame. Chances are that has already been pre-set anyway.

In the interests of your safety I am not prepaired to elaborate further nor am I ‘Gas Safe’ qualified. There are no regulations in this country to prevent you from tampering with your own oven. And your questioning already suggests to me and others that you haven’t a clue how to rectify the problem. Again I urge you to seek expert help from a fully qualified person who could fix it for you and provide the official documentation to show that the full safety checks and tests have been implimented.

Julian_P wrote:In short Martin, No. I’m not here to educate people regarding reasonable life expectancy – you can do your own research. But I’ll say one thing, 20 months isn’t near good enough.

OK Julian I won’t press you on the point as the relevance to the existing circumstances you are suffering with your freezer bears little or no relation to its overall “life expectancy”. The facts are that it has failed and (apparently) is repairable. That being the case its “life” isn’t exactly at an end.

Now I’m sure you will accept that electro-mechanical devices can, at some point in time, fail. Again you don’t have to come from the planet Zog to appreciate that. And that, as a consumer, your rights to ensure the product doesn’t fail are protected by an obligatory one year product guarantee. Beyond that period you have the option to protect the product further by paying for an extended warranty. And it is apparent from your statements that you didn’t take up that option, hence the predicament you are now faced with.

Fair wear and tear can also be a bone of contention when products like this fail in such a short period (I hasten to add that I agree with you in that 20 months isn’t very long and I too would be miffed about it if it were my freezer). Chest freezers can and often are subjected to the most adverse conditions in terms of location. Very often in the back of someone’s unheated garage or jammed into a poorly ventilated corner of a utility room or back porch. Freezing winter temperatures, unbearable summer heat, cobwebs and dust blocking the vents. All manner of overlooked abuse. That gleaming white box you paid 180 quid for could potentially have had a hard time of it this last 20 months.

But if the freezer failed to a point where is was unrepairable or that you could prove the cost of repair was disproportionate given its age. Somewhat contrary to my colleague Samuri’s refering to the manufacturer, you might have a case against the supplier. Though many before you have tried and failed in cases such as this. I don’t hold out much hope toward you succeeding. But wish you well and would love to hear from you the outcome.

Could you perhaps enlighten us as to what then was the average “acceptable life” period for a device such as this from your Internet searching?
