Re: Did you know…4 interesting facts about the washing mac

Prior to the EU Directive on energy consumption for washing machines was introduced in 1992 most maximum load cotton cycles took on average just one hour. After 1992 cycle times were increase two-fold. Since the revised EU directive of 2011 the cycle times are almost 3 times longer than they were in 1992.

A typical 8kg cottons wash now takes on average 2 hrs 47mins. 🙁

    Re: Waterproof outdoor clock

I’ve got an combined outdoor thermometer and clock I bought at a local garden centre for less than 15 quid 8 years ago. Still keeps perfect time and temperature through years of heat wave summers, damp, frosty snowy winters. Clock runs on one AA battery and needs changing every couple of years or so.

Nip round your local garden centre and buy one of the ‘Made in PRC’ wonders, I would suggest.

Depends what you mean by waste extension kit? The drain pump output is weak at best so extension hoses can be an issue as you know. The non return valve can restrict the flow so that’s worth double checking.

It’s a bi-metal device powered via the PCB not the pressure switch.

I suppose the only way to possibly go some way to ensuring the listings are constantly up-dated is to charge a nominal ‘registration fee’ OR some form of automated email based annual renewal system? The former creating the problems akin to WTA renewal issues, the latter no doubt requiring sophisticated software to impliment.

Tough call whatever the solution to resolve and I wish Ken and his team the best of luck on that one. A free and voluntary facility such as this will always be open abuse and inconsistencies. Firms closing, agencies terminated, skillset changes all lead to massive coverage gaps, a nightmare truth be told.

His somwhat enigmatic response actually refers to the main drive motor. Often the electronics can get confused over spurious electrical interference and in this instance could well be the motor. Specifically displaying an electrical short to earth, the carbon brushes worn or its windings shorting.

I hope you now fully understand? 😀

It is very nice I must say, works well. One problem I did notice when surfing the listings, many are very out-dated. As an example all those companies listed in the Reading area either no longer exist or (in the case of one company) continue to trade but in another name and phone number. 😕

Yes it is somewhat fiddly getting integrateds in and out. Yes the installation instruction leaflet illustrations aren’t terribly obvious as you have observed. On plate 4 it shows how to raise and lower the feet. Plate 8 removing the outer decor door and so on. Not brilliant I must agree but a job we in the trade know how to do with our eyes shut almost. Perhaps calling out your preferred tradesman might be a good next option? One to consider anyway. 🙂

tamworth29 wrote:can the pump be removed for inspection without removing the sump ?

The official procedure for access to the circulating pump is by removing the tub. Lid, door panel, side panels and tub unscrewed from the base and sump fixings. Then the tub lifts away giving full access to all the components in the base.

That’s how I do it and I wouldn’t consider any other method. For example the turning the whole dishwasher upside down method or the prise the base away bodge.

Do the spray arms rotate OK when the circulating pump fires up? If not the impeller is either blocked or broken OR it hasn’t filled with sufficient water, not enough in order for the flow to operate the microswitch.
