I don’t agree that the makers original part is always the best for the job. Sometimes manufacturers take a long time to respond to their own design faults and an after-market supplier may have improved on the original design. I used to work in the aircraft industry where specifications are set in stone and you can’t introduce improvements without spending vast amounts on flight testing etc. At Dunlop we made the carbon fibre brake discs for Concorde, which was the first aircraft to have this technology. The discs on other aircraft like the B757 were vastly superior as they benefited from subsequent advances in technology but we had to churn out the original, inferior discs for Concorde to meet the original spec.

I have always just used the white ones on 1200 spin machines and black ones on the slower spin models.

I only mention this because about 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the boards sent in have no fault

Does this mean that 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time you only charge a test fee rather than a repair fee? I just paid £41 for a repair to a W143S UK module and the machine is as bad as ever. 😥

In those cases I leave it to the customer to organise a way of getting the machine out (remove worktop 😯 ) then go back to do the job when they are ready.

I do most of my business with Connect rather than Parts Centre because I get a better deal re minimum order for free delivery. If I ordered/collected spares at a Parts Centre branch rather than online, could I avoid paying delivery charges?

I get quite a few phone calls asking if I have a call-out charge. Some still go ahead when I explain that my callout includes the first hour of work but many just say “I’ll get back to you” and are never heard from again. I’m probably better off without customers who want something for nothing anyway.

I don’t understand the bit about uneven wear on the brushes. I would have thought they were either making contact or not making contact. 😕

You also have to be careful when handling the one shot devices. I once managed to push one in just picking it up. 😥

    Re: Sneaky Police Speed Trap

There seems to be an attitude that accidents are inevitable but you can reduce the number that result in fatalities if everyone drives slower. This seems defeatest to me and surely it would be better to stop accidents happening in the first place. One way they could tackle this would be to enforce the mobile phone law, which seems to be almost universally ignored round here. Things like skid pan driving could be included in the normal driver training, which should be done by DoT officials rather than private firms. My mother had loads of driving lessons but spent her time gossiping with the woman driving instructor rather than learning anything useful.

I have given up waiting for Holland House. The heaters are now marketed by a firm called Design Applications but Holland House are waiting until they can make up a £200 minimum order before they can get my element. Can anyone help? it is 5″ square and rated at 1000 watts.

If the customer says it’s only 12 months old you will probably find it’s more like 4 years old!

Yes you get Creda Reservoirs, Indecents, Electrolux can be anything from an Electra to a Hotpoint, Phillips when its a nearly new Whirlpool, I’ve even been called out to a washing machine job where it turned out it was actually the dishwasher that was faulty. One that caught me out a couple of times was when the customer said it was a Bendix so I went along armed with bits for the old Philco made Bendix machines, only to find an Electrolux group product. I still don’t know why some are badged Tricity Bendix and others are just Bendix. 😕

Re: Hotpoint Ultima WM76 – Error Message ‘close door’

Is it locking the door? If not, have a look at the tracks on the control pcb as this provides the interlock neutral. The switched live (white) from the interlock goes to the power pcb. If you do need a new control module it needs to be configured to tell it what model it’s in.
