Ah, never thought about gas as I never touch the stuff. I leave that sort of thing to those little dogs with the stumpy legs and their collections of toy cars.

My toolbox contains a couple of rather nice stainless steel surgeons tools I retrieved from washing machines. I also once hade to get a set of keys out of a machine before a certain ward of the local hospital could be unlocked :boops:

Re: What’s the most illogical fault you’ve had to find?

I once spent ages trying to find a dry joint or poor connection on a Hotpoint washer drier. On this machine there was no motor action unless you wiggled the module, that clipped onto the timer. I even renewed all the wires to the motor but nothing helped. The machine was one sold secondhand by a shop that subbed repairs to me. When in the shop next time I noticed they had an identical washer drier in their stock of machines for reconditioning. I proposed that I repair this so it could be offered as a replacement to the other washer drier customer. When I looked at this second machine I found the symptoms were identical to the first and a couple of other repairers had already washed their hands of it!

I suppose it depends on the type of work you are doing. I find an 18 volt drill/driver is required for Zanussi drum screws but a smaller tool may be better for screwing on panels etc. At least with the bigger tools you often get a spare battery included.

I was also happy with how it looked before. My only problem was with the Mediator blow up parts diagrams, I always found that 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of machines I looked up had NO Image Available. Mediator is still handy to find part numbers though, as the normal search just gives you the Connect internal code numbers.

How do you make a bearing cross? Smack it a few times with a dirty great lump hammer :clown:

Many thanks, I will give them a ring. Sounds a bit better than £93.26 for the bearing cross. 🙂

I am a sole trader and I get the vast majority of my spares from Connect as they give me the best price/minimum order for free delivery deal.

One of my customers just got a quote from Hotpoint for doing the drum bearings on a WMA30 : £120. I don’t know if they charge extra for remote locations as we are a bit off the beaten track here.

I don’t bother getting these timers repaired as they are only £27.75 new from Connect. 🙂

How about the ones who stand and watch you as you dismantle their Zanussi. Just at the point when you’ve removed all the screws from the back half and are splitting the cabinet, they ask “have you found the problem yet?” 🙄

Re: What is the most useful tool in your toolbox?

That would have been handy today, trying to get the stupid slab of melamine off the top of a Hoover Performa. I used a G cramp to clamp a block of wood on top of the back edge of the lid and knocked hell out of said block with a hammer. Each blow slid the lid out by about 1mm so it was a time consuming business! 👿
