Thanks Jim, next time I do one of these I will order new O rings for the condenser and the elbow fitting for the sump hose, both of which leaked initially. 😡

Perhaps they are making them of thinner plastic these days.

What is the NTC resistance? I’ve had a few NTCs go low resistance on these lately so the electronics thinks they are already up to temperature.

That’s not really fair on Indesit. I was not impressed with the ones with the round bearing hub but the machines with The alloy bearing cross were quite durable until they started with computerised timers. I sold one of these to some friends when it was about 8 years old and they got another 8 years out of it, including lots of horse blankets.

I wonder if there is money to be made repairing pushbikes? When I was a kid everyone tended to do their own, apart from jobs like wheelbuilding. Cycle shops have always done repairs but I’ve never heard of a mobile service before. Might be a way to keep old canis lupus from the door during these difficult times.

Re: Hotpoint WM52 bearing & shaft removal

Not sure if it’s in the latest edition but this job was described in the Haynes manual for washing machines. Basically you remove the cabinet front, remove the tub front which is held with spring clips, remove the rear pulley locknut and turn the pulley to unscrew it from the shaft, knock the shaft through with a mallet and remove the inner drum. You can then drift or press out the bearings and bolt a new drum support to the drum.

Masterpart list the motor as the 3 phase, C00144157. I would have thought the 3 phase sort would be identifiable by it’s lack of brushes 😕

So, is this the same as the 2 year “warranty” people are quoting for EC law? I’ve had one or two customers mention this lately but I didn’t know if they had got the wrong end of the stick. 😕

Re: Help finding stacking unit for washing machine & tum

Can’t you just have a worktop above the washer and sit the dryer on the worktop? As a repairer, this is always the preferred option 😉 Obviously you would need enough room for legs or a support panel at the fridge freezer end of the worktop.

Yes, I think you would be eccentric to say the least to spend that sort of money on a part that may not fail anyway 😉 If you are that worried you could just sell the machine on again. If you have the space you could look round for another machine of the same model, that way you would have a spare one of everything, hopefully for somewhat less than £214.

Yes, it is a pain when you have to buy major parts you don’t need. On the other hand, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a metal tub Bosch machine with drum spider failure from corrosion.

When I worked at Dunlop my boss was a bloke called Tom Fennel. He had previously worked for NASA and was one of the engineers who worked on the lunar modules. He was quite a down-to-earth chap and I think he would have mentioned if it was all a hoax.

Dysons have been plagued with mains cable failures for years so presumably the thicker cable is meant to address the issue.

    Re: 3 uf Capacitor

Capacitors are only specified in terms of capacitance and voltage, they don’t have current / power ratings so any 3uf non electrolytic, suitable for mains applications will do the job.
