It was the switch, though I could have repaired the damage without need for a new one as it was just a copper link between 2 terminals that had blown, not the switch itself. This is why all the contacts (which are visible from above the switch) appeared OK.

That big clamp band is not the best device for a reliable seal of the backplate so you do always need to either renew the rubber gasket or add a bead of silicone sealant if re-using the old one. Of course the leak may be from the door seal!

Have you looked on Connect mediator? There are exploded views of the 922 on there.

The spider is available on its own, part No. 236000400 but I was assuming your machine was product No. 010103003. I don’t know if product No. 010103003 -01 01 has a different spider 😕

Also check all the wiring to the main module. Access for fitting this is so poor on these machines that it would be easy to overlook a loose plug.

Normally the light would still come on even if the element had blown. It does sound more like a faulty switch or grill energy regulator.

I was just advising someone on the public forum about a Diplomat washer. I was looking up parts on Masterpart and saw that the drum backplate , 718002200 is £44.99 so is worth considering for the DIYer who might not have suitable tools for changing broken bearings. I happened to look up the same part on Connect, more than twice the price at £102.80 😯

I’m not sure what you have removed but to change the bearings you would remove the tub backplate, which is stainless steel with an alloy framework / bearing housing. This is not too bad a job for the beginner but I would advise you renew the rubber gasket for the backplate and lay the machine on its front when re-assembling the tub. A new backplate with bearings can be purchased, part No. 718002200.

How do service engineers know how to go about repairing whitegoods without manuals – a combination of luck, experience, trial and error?
Yes, that about sums it up. Even if manuals were available there would be no time to procure them before going out to a job and it would not be cost effective anyway for the less common machines like Diplomat. Your machine is basically a Servis. The seal change is not that easy because of the moulded in drain hose at the bottom. This will need to be secured using debor glue or silicone sealant. You need the lid off and the tub held as far back as it will go. Remove the clamp bands from the front and back of the seal and pull off the old seal. Line up the drain hose bit of the new seal with the corresponding hole in the tub and work the adjacent area of the seal onto the tub lip. Now work round in each direction manipulating the seal onto the tub lip. When the seal is on the tub you need to feed round the inner clamp band ensuring it goes above the drain hose section. Check it is properly in its groove and tighten the band. Now apply adhesive/sealant to the drain hose part and insert it into the hole. Finally work the front of the seal onto the cabinet front and secure it with the metal band.

As it happens I did order a new switch today as they are not that expensive from Masterpart. It’s always good to get a second opinion though

If the thermostat does not click at the start of it’s movement then it is the likely culprit. With power off you can do an experiment to confirm this diagnosis. Take the 2 wires off the thermostat and join them together, making sure they won’t touch the oven metalwork etc. Switch on the power and the oven. The oven neon should be on and the oven should start to heat up. If this is the case you can then purchase and fit a new thermostat. If bypassing the thermostat makes no difference you can report back.
