I don’t have enough experience of these machines to judge. I know Baumatic dishwashers are made by Fagor but don’t know about the washing machines. I’ve not worked on many Baumatic washers though anyway.

ParticipantRe: What do you wear for work ?
I have boiler suits but must admit I don’t always wear them. It tends to be jeans and lumberjack shirt with or without a fleece. The other repairers I’ve met have also just worn casual clothes. I would never turn up at someones house wearing shorts though.

I was not making a value judgement on the Fagor as a specific make, simply comparing the likely cost of repair with the typical price of an integrated washing machine, which is normally quite a lot more than you pay for an ordinary washer.

Have they changed the design of the drum then?

Plug out, lid off. Have a look at the wiring to the dryer heater and associated parts. Often these wires get broken by vibration. If these are OK you next need a multimeter set at a low ohms range. Each time you do a resistance check on a component you need to disconnect one or all of it’s wires otherwise you get misleading results. Check the heater which should be a few ohms. There should also be a thermal overload cutout which should read 0 ohms. The temperature control is done using an NTC which should read a few thousand ohms so may require a higher range on the meter. You can also check to make sure the fan is running as without the fan the heat won’t reach the drum.

The other day I needed a base TOC for a Fagor dishwasher. I looked on Connect but the part was listed as special order and priced at about £18 + VAT trade. I hate ordering anything on special order so I did a Google search for the part. I found I could get one from a site called http://www.buyspares.co.uk. It was cheaper on there, £2.75 inc VAT + £2.98 post.
This was a retail site, not trade. The part arrived today, guess where from?
Yes, it came from Connect! :rolls:Phidom

Is it the wash or the tumble drying that is lacking heat?

Possibly a blockage in the condensing vessel on the back of the tub. Sometimes they get bunged up with sodden fluff.

Don’t try to eek out the life of the brushes as you could get sparking which can overheat the motor.

When you mention pumps I assume you mean solenoid valves. On the washer dryers there is a 3 way valve on the cold, supplying the normal detergent compartment for wash and initial rinse cycles; the fabric conditioner compartment for final rinses; and the condensing vessel for tumble drying. With the fabric conditioner rinse solenoid disconnected the machine will stick at the start of the final rinse. It may also display an error sequence once it has detected a problem. I don’t have one of these boards to check but it may be a type of solid state switch, similar to a triac that controls the valve, rather than a relay. These are small surface mount components.

What you need is a 1600J3 belt. It looks like UKW don’t stock this size but if you have a local appliance spares shop they will probably have one. Other part numbers for this belt include 1740876 and C00208989, as quoted by Creda who used the same belt on their dryers.

ParticipantRe: Which brushes?
The ones listed for your model are 047317 but I would check what make of motor you have as there are at least 2 different ones used by Ariston. 047317 is for Indesco motors but yours may have a CESET motor.

ParticipantRe: FAGOR – Module and Timer board blown
The main board on your machine is about £120 retail which is still quite a bit cheaper than a new integrated machine but you do need to know what part of the board has blown to check for other faults such as short circuits in motor, heater, door switch etc.

ParticipantRe: What would you do?
These days I’m less inclined to give free advice that will lose me a job. It’s hard enough to make a living without talking yourself out of work. I used to tell people with oven trouble to check that the timer was on manual…. now I do it for them and pocket the call-out fee. If they were phoning Hotpoint or Zanussi they would just speak to call centre staff who just make appointments and don’t have technical knowledge. I wonder how many people end up paying £80+ to get their filter cleaned out?

ParticipantRe: What are you trying to say guys?:?
I prefer the old Cockney rhyming slang, “It’s cream crackered”. I have to be careful what I say to my customers up here in darkest Banffshire. Once or twice I have told them “It’s done” and they have looked crestfallen. This is because the vernacular in these parts has the word “done” to mean unserviceable or beyond repair. Instead I have to say “That’s your machine sorted”.
