Yes, sounds like a shorted triac on the speed control circuit. If you have a knacked module knocking around with the correct triac you could repair the board rather than replace.

Motor failure is usually down to overloading which can happen any time in the life of a machine. I had one customer who destroyed 2 Hotpoint motors within a week.

Thanks, Rogue. Looks like it would be silly money for one even if it is available. I wonder if I could bypass it? 😕

These things seem so simple but are obviously not simple enough for some people. I have seen hundreds of machines with the rubber cuff cut off the end of the hose but have yet to speak to anyone who admits to doing this :rolls: It can be a real pain trying to get a satisfactory seal without the cuff. At least the ones where the customer pushes the hose onto a blanked off fitting provide a “nice little earner”.

Yes, you must fit all parts of the new bearing kit. Which bit do you mean when you mention the “sleave”?

You probably need a new pump. These are not expensive so it is well worth getting it fixed. Your present machine is probably better than most of the equivalent models currently available so you should try to keep it going as long as possible.

Re: Help with new integrated washing machine

Probably not what you want to hear but my advice would be to go for a non integrated one. You then wont need to worry about the limited depth, you will get better value for money and the machine will be easy to get out if it needs maintenance. 😉

The spider is usually OK on these as it does not have a bronze bush to get damaged like you get on most other machines. If you do order a spider you should also get new fixing screws as they rust in. The most difficult job will be removing the outer race of the front bearing. The front bearing is nearly always in bits, balls broken in half etc.

Apologies for going slightly off topic but could you explain why the ISE forum is restricted? I think it should be open to all trade members so they could make a more informed decision about becoming ISE dealers.

    Re: Microwave oven query

There is not much to choose between different makes in terms of reliability. The Panasonic one probably has an inverter rather than the simple HT transformer and could therefore be more expensive to repair if it does go wrong. Similarly, with regard to microwave leakage protection, they all use very similar design and materials and will be equally safe.

Yes, all the pipes in my bathroom are plastic but I’m still not required to earth bond the steel bath 😕

Re: Unable to remove the back off my AEG 16830 washing machi

This machine is like a Zanussi in that you remove the whole rear half of the cabinet. You may have missed the screws at the sides near the bottom. These are hidden behind plastic plugs and you will need an 8mm socket, 1/4″ drive to remove them. You also need to unclip the bracket for the water inlet connections.

    Re: customer database.

In theory I have a database on cardfile which was part of Windows 95 when I started it. I don’t know if it comes with later versions as I have simply copied it over as I’ve upgraded. Unfortunately I am very bad at keeping it up to date 😳

Re: Creda Cachet Solar Plus grill problem (Model 48182)

This may not actually be a fault unless it used to be more controllable in the past. I have had 3 electric cookers that used simmerstats (energy regulators) to control the grill and they have all tended to stop cooking if you reduced the setting slightly from full. The same devices seem to work well enough at controlling the spiral rings but with those the heat transfer uses conduction so the ring still heats the pan when it is not glowing. The grill element seems to heat mainly by radiation, which stops as soon as the element ceases to glow.

Even if you were taking out a shower and fitting a new one I don’t think you need worry about Part P unless for example you needed to take out an old 6mm supply cable and replace it with 10mm for a higher wattage shower. Luckily we don’t have Part P in Scotland so I can still legally do most wiring jobs.
