ParticipantRe: NO CALL OUT CHARGE… (So how exactly does that work???)
The only time I would not charge is if I don’t trust my own diagnosis enough to risk ordering non returnable parts. For example I once went to an LG washing machine and was 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure it needed a new module but when I saw the price of the part I advised the customer to get another repairer. My callout charge depends on distance but starts at £20. I still get a few folk who ring and ask if I have a callout charge and decline my services when I tell them. I take the attitude that I am probably better off without customers like that. I used to advise customers on the phone to make sure the oven timer was on manual, these days I go in, press a couple of buttons and charge £20 😆

ParticipantRe: Newspaper classified advert sizes?
If there’s a weekly paper it will be better to advertise there than having one or two ads a week in a daily paper. I tried advertising in a free paper at one stage but it was a waste of money. There’s hardly any local news in the free one so a lot of folk bin it without opening it. Also it’s only delivered in the towns and bigger villages so you don’t reach rural customers.

ParticipantRe: Disposing of old appliances
Here it’s free to take them to the tip for members of the public but not for tradesmen obviously. I give them to a local chap who takes them by the van load to the scrap metal merchant. It costs me nothing and he gets the scrap value. He also separates out the aluminium like pulleys and motor casings as he can get a good price for that.

Now you really are telling porkies, if you asked the pump attendant for 15 litres he would have sent you away with a flea in your ear 😆

Thanks for the reply, Martin. If the NTC had failed would the machine still work correctly sometimes? Do they go open circuit or just stay at a fixed resistance of a few K? I will order a new one anyway.

I figured out what I was doing wrong on the e shop site (I had it set to accessories instead of spares) but I still don’t know how the numbers on the diagram relate to the part numbers as they are not cross referenced 😕

Candy Charme range bearings, especially the Turbo washer dryers. Worse than that, Candy Top loader bearings.
Worse than that… Zanussi f/freezer insulation re-foams in the 1980’s.
Puts you lot in the shade.

Was that the razor sharp stainless steel tub with about as much rigidity as a beer can? If so, I still have the scars……. 🙁

ParticipantRe: leakage test
I often find this when I PAT test washing machines, they pass the 500 volt insulation test but fail the substitute leakage (touch current) test. I’m not sure how you stand on this if you issue a pass result. You are not obliged to have done a substitute leakage if you have done the insulation and earth continuity tests……

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FS1055W Overfilling
Sorry Martin, I forgot to give the product No. it’s 91479110000. The pressure switch only has 6 terminals, 31 and 32 are blank.
Anyway, the machine is now working 😀 It was the heater open circuit. It would never have occurred to me that the heater could affect the fill level. It does not strike me as the safest of design features 😯 Anyway, thanks for the help  :beer:Phidom
ParticipantRe: Zanussi FS1055W Overfilling
I sent the module to QER for repair. It came back and I tried again but the fault remains the same. I notice that terminal 21 on the pressure switch goes to the interlock and I’m now wondering if it could be an interlock problem. Unfortunately I don’t have the right interlock to try, only the old diaphragm type. Any thoughts anyone?

Any ideas who would /could modify the existing oven
I would suggest you find someone who makes and modifies equipment for handicapped people. I know someone who does this in Coventry but I’m sure there are such people all over the country. Possibly your local social services or special needs schools could give you contact details. I agree that it is beyond the scope of the average appliance repairer although I would do it if you were in my area.

Ta Brian, I did try that site but it said no results found. I’ve ordered an 18BS16 from Maddocks but I’m not sure if it’s in stock. It said “In Stock” on the website but underneath said it’s a special order :rolls:

I still think the easiest option would be to get the Existing oven modified to replace the aluminium parts with a different material and replace the old combi with an ordinary microwave. As stated, the magnetron fins are aluminium but I don’t think they should get hot enough to give a problem (which is why they didn’t cause a problem on the old Sharp).

I was initially looking to buy an old cottage to convert as a holiday home but was put off by the scare stories. Some people have fitted new kitchens, bathrooms, double glazing etc only to return to a stripped out shell of a house on their next visit. 🙁

I’m going back to Bulgaria in September, to see the plot of land I’ve just purchased. It’s a 1500 square metre building plot on the edge of a village called Nikiup, near Veliko Tarnovo. I will see what Bulgaria is like in about 15 years time and decide if I want to retire there. If I do, I will sell up here and have a house built, if not I can just sell the land off again. Cost of my purchase? EUR4000.
