    Re: Hotpoint Interlock Warning

I wish I hadn’t bothered with this thread now, everyone seems to think I’m either clueless or making up fairy tales 🙁 I just thought it might save someone from blowing up a module by plugging in the interlock wrong but to hell with the lot of you.

Yes, you can still get the bits and yes, it could well be worth fixing. The fan motor might just need brushes. The noise might be a broken drum support spider but is still worth doing. I would take a look at the underside of the machine where the suspension units are bolted on. If the base of the cabinet is cracked at these points I would scrap it but that problem was more common on the washing machines than the washer dryers.

Sadly Hotpoint washing machines are no longer built to last and very few people in the trade would recommend one these days. If you can remember how much you paid for the old machine you should try to avoid paying less than that for the new one. I would consider a Bosch or a Zanussi to be a better buy.

Unplug first! You will need to remove the drawer to see whats happening. Take off the lid of the machine and reach down beneath the soap drawer housing to the rubber hose that goes from drawer to outer drum. Give the hose a squeeze and there will probably be something hard inside. Usually it is a lump of solidified soap powder. You may be able to manipulate the hard lump upwards into the drawer housing or into the drum. Sometimes you can dissolve the blockage by pouring very hot water into the soap drawer housing with the drawer removed.

I would go through a full spin with the repaired/renewed board and check for bad sparking at the brushes. No point fitting a new motor unless it needs one.

The machine left the factory with the red interlock fitted.

Re: Hotpoint WMA57 Pumps in water through soap tray after sp

I suppose as a layperson wanting something repaired, the thing you should remember is to always get the repairer to do the diagnosis. If you ask someone to come and fit a new pump that’s what they will do and there’s no comeback if the new pump fails to cure the fault. If however you describe the symptoms and just ask to get the machine repaired the repairer should first try out the machine to verify the symptoms for himself then decide what needs to be done. This way you do have some comeback because the repairer has breached his contract with you if the work he does fails to restore your appliance to correct working order.

    lets just clarify this

the WHITE lock is then new variant

the RED lock is the old one

I still don’t understand what you are getting at. Are you saying that it was built with a wiring harness to take the white interlock but was fitted with a red one so the plug had to be modified to suit? I just looked at a WMA machine in the workshop and tried both types of interlock onto the wiring plug. In both cases the hook part I mentioned lined up with a window in the interlock socket skirt. This is how I normally know which way they go but on the machine today this hook does not line up with the window when correctly located so there is no positive locking of the plug in the interlock.

    Re: Hotpoint Interlock Warning

The machine would not work if you put the plug in the other way round though 😕

Ah but this still has the old style interlock.

The point is that you pay money to get an appliance repaired so if the fault still persists they should come back and have another go. In a case like this, if I were the repairer I would come back, do the additional work needed to get the machine working properly, make out a bill for the new work and deduct the amount received for the previous work.
