ParticipantRe: Van Speed Limit
It looks like I can do 60 in my motor caravan as it is registered as such, assuming the 1.6 petrol engine will get it up to 60 😉 Now, where did I put that Rover V8 lump?

ParticipantRe: Van Speed Limit
Thanks. I’m still confused though. Looking at the table it would appear he is limited to 50 but then looking at the notes underneath he might be OK to do 60 if his GVW is below 2020Kg. My Toyota Hiace camper has a GVW of 2400 Kg but is it a goods vehicle?

I suspect you can get a break in the tacho coil windings but the broken ends touch most of the time. Now & then the contact breaks down and the machine briefly tries to go to full spin until the electronics decides there is a fault. In the case of the fully computerised models this can make it reset to the beginning of the programme.

40 minutes? I’ve never had RAC come that quickly! I thought Green Flag just used local garages rather than employ their own rescue mechanics? In which case you could well end up getting the same bloke if you call the RAC. If they can’t get one of their own people to you they eventually send out a local garage. I once waited over 3 hours for the RAC but the bloke who came with the local garage towtruck told me they had only called him 20 minutes earlier.

How Morris Made His Fortune
A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money.
Morris, the old guy fingered his worsted wool vest and said, “Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel. So I invested that nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple and, at the end of the day, I sold the apple for ten cents.
The next morning, I invested those ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them and sold them at 5:00 pm for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, by the end of which I’d accumulated the sum of $1.60…..
Then my wife’s uncle Bernie died and left us two million dollars.”

ParticipantRe: Bendix BIW100 Bearing Kit
Thanks Chris, yes that is the Product No. At least it makes it viable to do the recon.

ParticipantRe: Bendix BIW100 Bearing Kit
Customer decided to get a new machine so I took the Bendix for reconditioning. I’ve not stripped it yet but did take off the pulley and the outer bearing is a 6204 i.e. 20 x 47 x 14. So it looks like it is the standard Zanussi setup. Electrolux group always were bad for giving the wrong information on bearings, spiders etc. 🙁

Thanks Dave, looks like it won’t be a viable repair then as the seal from Connect is £9.40 + VAT special order and the spider is megga bucks. It is a drum out the top job so I would have to charge extra labour anyway.

Thanks Dave, that’s another pint I owe you.

ParticipantRe: How do you drain off a flooded WMA?
Syphon tube through the soap drawer housing into the drum perhaps? Once the water was low enough you might get the hose off and poke the tube direct into the drum.

ParticipantRe: Brandt AFL WFH1261U
It was the child lock. Pressed in the 2 buttons as described and that unlocked it. Customer had just moved the machine so I suppose she may have been pressing on those buttons as she moved it. 🙂

ParticipantRe: Brandt AFL WFH1261U
Thanks. I replied earlier but my post has gone walkies for some reason. As I said, I did get the module out of the box to have a look but there was no visible damage. I will try to suss out these child lock buttons.

ParticipantRe: Will we be regulated by Corgi?
I don’t mind taking a few exams etc. but the costs will have to be added to the customers repair bills so more of them will opt to buy new and less will pay the increased repair cost. This in turn will mean the extra costs are spread over less jobs etc etc. A customer told me today that she was quoted £89 callout by the manufacturer to look at her Creda tumble drier. I dare say not many members of the public are willing to pay that sort of money so in practice the repairers are mostly only doing manufacturers or extended warranty work, especially on tumble driers. If my overheads go up to the point that I have to charge that sort of money I know for a fact that work will be vary scarce.

Why would you need to be a registered gas installer to repair a washing machine? I suppose refrigeration could be put onto Corgi.
