    Re: Yellow Pages 2011

Our yellow pages was so thin and small this year they posted it through the letter box!
Never seen that before 😯 .
Just goes to show how many people are steering away from yellow pages i think their days are well and truly numbered.

    Have you metered the motor?

I tend to meter it from the board much easier and you get the bonus of testing the loom! so then you know if it all meters out ok chances are the board.

    Re: Personal safety

I totally agree with you safety is paramount NO LIVE TESTING EVER! no need for it!!

Its not the volts that get you it is the current (amps) under the right circumstances has little as 300th of 1amp which is very very very little can be lethal.

    Never ever test live!

Ok i will bite (knowing this is what your after!).

Of course you give a monkeys and of course you care what we all think!
    What silly talk tut tut.
Because you love us has much as we love you!!!!

It is obvious (in my opinion) you do love the attention and the limelight that all this provokation brings and you love to think that your wiser then the rest of us mere mortals engineers.

Otherwise in my humble opinion there is no other reason i can think of why you would choose to try and provoke people into arguments and try to get a reaction to see “who is the daddy”.

I actually think you do know what your on about job wise and your advise to other users is widely appreciated. But as one wise man told me when i was an apprentice “you will never know it all and don’t kid yourself that you do!”

I actually do like you. I find your posts amusing. Keeps me entertained for a while anyway.

Go on carry on entertaining me/us some more you know you want too pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee……………..

    Big love Phil The Fish!!

    Re: Connect Prices

Had connect rep phone me up today and he asked “why do i not use them?”… “am i i having difficulty with our site.” cheeky bloody rug rat! NO was my reply because your way to expensive! “who do you use then?” local wholesaler my reply. “ok we will give you a bigger discount go online and check the price difference!” so i did and lo and behold it was even more expensive!!!!!! I can not wait for the idiot to phone back to see what my reaction is i think he reckons i should be impressed.

To be honest my local wholesaler is only a little concern so i would much rather give my business to them then these people. At least it’s a personal service and they have helped me out in the past when i have been struggling or it needs sorting asap they have gone out their way to help. So i will do my best to help them out where i can.

Re: One For The Tracked Engineer

I have had vans with trackers and vans without. Personally to me it didn’t make one bit of difference ( i could not care less what anyone thought as long as i had done my job right) if you do 10 calls or whatever a day to the best of your ability then who gives a hoot what time you finish? you have done your days work end of story. If i meet my figures and i have no complaints and i finish early then i am happy it was a good day!! It does not automatically mean your work shy a skiver swinging the lead or whatever bull you want to come out with in a vain attempt to make yourself look better then any one else. That’s just vanity it does not mean you work harder it means you have worked longer!!! You are no better or worse then the other engineers. It’s just some days are good some are bad. Someone who as say 20yrs experience is obviously going to finish a lot early then someone who has 2yrs experience. When i first started i finished on average between 7and9 at night now its between 3.30 and 4,30 and i do more calls and i think i work harder now being self employed in fact i know i work harder! So would that make me work shy if i was employed by someone else????
If i was still employed and someone said you finished early i would say yeah i know good ain’t it? and then laugh at them. Why would i want to be scrawling around some dirty floor when i can be with my family and freinds or even in the pub. Work to live not live to work!
All the gaffers i have ever known have said the same thing “its swings and roundabouts” but to a degree i suppose they’re right. You can do 2hrs over one day then have a couple of early finishs so it does work out in the end.
I can see how some people would get peed off with the thought of work having the ability to see what they do in their private life if they have personal use of the vehicle although apparently they’re not meant to watch you like that.
I can see how some engineers wouldn’t like trackers and it is another added stress thinking are they watching me? are they going to dump another call on me? etc etc.
I think engineers are under enough stress already cut them a bit of slack and trust them to do their job properly.

Sometimes i don’t think that would be a problem at all.
Bring back the old days no trackers and no mobiles the job was a lot less stressful then.

    Re: Waste Carriers Licence

To be honest cras is right. I have already got my weee certificate/license but if it was not for allsorts bringing this to our attention(thank you allsorts) i would not of had a clue about it or realised i was doing anything wrong and i do not think many others would.
I told them exactly what i do when i applied for the weee license so should it not of been down to them to at least notify us there has been a change in their policies/law just a simple letter, email, phone call etc instead of just dropping either an unexpected £840 tax/bill on us or £50000 fine if caught. It is crazy i do not spend all my time searching their website in case i am doing wrong.
How would that stand in court? The ea… we are prosecuting them for doing their job that they have always done although they are registered with us and are law abiding citizens and have always done everything we asked of them. We know exactly what they do for a living but we could not be ar$ed to tell them we have changed the law £50000 please.

    Re: Waste Carriers Licence

I am in the trade and have been for some 15years plus. All it is is when the repair side dries up i turn to the recon side as i say don’t do loads should say about 2 to 3 a week dependent upon supply and workload.
It is a nice little top up to my repair work hence the term of “beer tokens” i don’t look at it as anything more then a bonus.
I suppose £840 is not so bad for 3 years but if it was for 1 year it would be a different situation.
why don’t they just have a yearly charge? Its a little steep for a one off charge.
