ParticipantRe: Mi5 or Miele.
They will pay your travel expenses for interview.
With miele you will also have to get into their way of thinking and that does not include thinking for yourself because thats not their way so its the wrong way! They will honestly try to brainwash you. You will learn what to say when to say what to do and when to do it i kid you not its part of the training and a whole lot more.
Nearly every person i know at miele seem to have come out the same mould they say the same things act the same way look at things the same way because it’s the MIELE WAY! Trust me you might not think it but they do! And the few that miele could not brainwash are actually decent people but are looked upon as outsiders and are marked as such there is a definate devide within miele sorry mielA forgot thats how your told how to pronounce it with an A instead of an E.
I know personally that most the engineers who work for miele visit this site but will never say anything and never post anything because they know like everything else with miele it gets monitered. They know to the second where you are and what your doing every minute of the day they watch everything and more.
I am not saying it is a bad company i think it used to be a better company when the germans actually run it just saying its a different type of company.
Some people like it that way just get up dont think and just go and do it come back home but me personally i dont i have to think for myself and i am not a number!
Oh forgot and i cant work 2hrs a day for nothing aswel like they do EXPECT!(1/2 hr travel in morning 1/2hr at night 20-30 min download calls and sort email updates et etc and 1/2 hr sending spares back thats without your unpaid dinner break!)
But on the plus side you dont work in many cr4p houses (well until they started selling in the sheds instead of independents now there is worse places then before) the machines are decent to work on, you dont have that many calls but you can end up doing some distance at times, van stock not that bad, they keep you updated, they do kit you out fairly well tools etc, you have a decent van, phone, laptop, pension a few other perks but wages are not the best at all (make sure you haggle in interview) seeing they keep telling everyone they’re the best they’re about average i would say for the industry but you do get dinner money which is a bonus.Hth phil

It is a clothes hanger. When i was a kid we was going on a camping holiday my dad had packed the car and tied one of those on the roof rack needless to say it fell off on the motorway and all the hangers shot across the motorway like flying knives 😯 i still to today dont know how it did not kill anyone or cause a pile up!
It was probably around late 70s early 80s.phil

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Sorry i am not vain but i just could not drive round with a blo*dy big screwdriver on top of the van and pay for the privalage thats just silly.
I can not see what they actually do for you apart from make you look daft and take your money! They say “it’s all down to how much you put in” so why do i need them then?
Yes they do look stupid because there is one by us and i nearly wet myself when i saw it. customers just would not take you serious if thats there first impression of you a bloody old crap stanley screwdiver stuck to the top of your bright yellow van! They would be taking the mick as they opened the door! It would certainly get the neighbours laughing.philfish

ParticipantRe: Bearing Kit Needed for Miele W833
only ever done 2 bearing jobs on miele never needed a shaft sure you need one? they take some hammer before the shaft goes. bearing kits from miele have all the seals complete think the kit is about £100-£120 if i remember right there is 2 or 3 seals but they are british made so if you could get them out you might be able to source them yourself cheaper.
Someone with the miele part list might be able to give you correct part numbersphil

ParticipantRe: Worst Week Ever
I know that i am probably tempting fate but i struggle to see how it can possibly get any worse. machines at an all time low in price and quality (manafacturers can’t really get much lower!), parts are way to expensive, throw away society, customers are more demanding, advertising more expensive, fuel way to high, restricted practises and information used by manafacturers etc etc etc.
We may aswell all walk round with a sandwich board on saying “the end is nigh” but we all still make a living from it granted it can be rocky but it still is a living. I have only done 2 calls today but already earned more money then if i was employed so i’m happy! Yes it could be better but it could also be a lot worse!!
Right now there are 1000s of people in the country who would give their right arm to have what we have in terms of skill and flexibility and the ability to make money like we can i think we take for granted and forget just how lucky we are!
I think things will get better we are just coming out the summer holiday period so work should pick up usually does. In the future i think the way forward is to look at other avenue’s high value appliances, gas, refrigeration, commercial, intergrated etc etc stuff you would never usually touch but you have to be flexible thats the key.
It can also benefit us i now a lot of engineers are retiring or retired but for us younger models on a selfish note that has to be a bonus for us demand for us has to go up its simple its supply and demand.
The great general public, wp’s, manafacturers, estate agents, hair dresser’s, laundry’s,nursing homes, schools, reasturants etc etc will always need us they will not admit it but they do as long as they have appliances they really do. More people then not have not got a spare few hundred quid to throw away on a washer or fridge etc and are left with the only alternative’s to repair it pay double for a new one or go without.
I think we all owe a big thank you to ukwhitegoods and everyone who runs it and uses it because i think the trade would be in a far worse position then it is now without it! It has certainly taught me a few lessons which i would never of known or would of learned a very hard and costly way.
I will keep going until the trade implodes on it’s self then waste my time worrying about it then! but until then i will keep plodding on taking no notice of all the doom and gloom stories i keep hearing i have been in the trade nearly 15yrs and was told the same thing back then it still has not happened and doubt it ever will.
