£60 profit for 2 hours work – you could do 4 a day thats £240 not bad for a days work. Cant see the problem people have with bearing jobs perhaps they dont like getting their hands dirty.I’m doing Zanussis from £90 to £120 , Wms £70 and Wmas £90 to £130.Blocked pumps, carbon and belt replacement jobs all day long would be great – but just doesnt happen. As cash repairs have dwindled over the past 10 years youve got to take profit where you can.Its a lot better than sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring/cleaning the van/tidying the toolbox.

This happened to me twice the other day.I’ve finished the job and just testing the appliance. The customers phone rings, she answers it and then disappears upstairs with it.I write out the bill and wait for the customer to appear but shes still yacking on the phone upstairs, wait a few more minutes and then go to the foot of the stairs and shout hello – she doesnt hear me because shes still yacking! Now theres a bit of a decision to be made -do you go upstairs or just get louder with your shouts.I decided to wait -the first one came down 10 minutes later and said ‘Oh are you waiting’paid and I left. The second one kept me waiting 2o minutes by which time I scribbled out my hourly rate charge and added £10 – hope she got the message!

Went to a fridge/freezer a few years ago with water in the bottom of the fridge – the pipe to the top of the comp was blocked with gunge.I tried unblocking it from inside the fridge but couldnt quite get it clear. The customer started mithering ‘do you know what youre doing?'(grrr..).I went round the back and blew up the pipe just as the customer opened the door of the fridge. The gunge out of the pipe hit him right on his beak and his face was covered with it.I dont know how I kept a straight face.

Thanks Chris I’ll order one.Dont think customer would have paid for complete pump.Never done one of these before but for the record disconnect everything, cabinet off(screws all round),turn upside down and take screws out of back and base and then you can get at the circ pump screws.Probably telling grandma how to suck eggs but there you go.

I am told that you cant access spare parts unless you have a trade account but you can only get a trade account if you are vat registered which excludes a lot of sole traders. Is this true?

Am I in the minority on here but I cant seem to get very far with the e-shop.I’m registered it accepts me.I enter the E-nr in the appliance box and get a screen pop-up telling me about navigation etc.Click the ‘exploded views’ and get another page telling me about the icons on the upper page – what upper page?
I can never understand commercial websites that make it difficult for the customer to spend money this one is not intuitive, I’ve spent hours on it already to no avail,I’d have been quicker asking for part numbers in Trade Spares and then ordering by phone.reaper

Went to an Indesit a few years back, house stank and had to dance between the dog turds stuck up like ‘walnut whips’ to get to the machine.Tipped it up to find furry things underneath and mushrooms growing – announced the machine as scrap and departed.About a month later he bought a freezer off me. When I delivered it he said he’d had the kitchen done up with new cushion floor, when I went in- he had but straight on top of the walnut whips – you could feel them squidging underfoot.Ahh – lifes rich tableau !

Some wuzzes on here.Bearing jobs – love ’em – good money while they’re still going. WMAs-still doing a few of these, once you get organised and fit an exchange unit(one you made earlier). It takes longer to refit the harness.Zanussi split tubs, rear off split cabinet, hoses off, motor off, wiring off heater and stats, top suspension pegs half out,lay it on its back-remove pegs and top springs-just tilt front cabinet forward.Voila!-no lifting the tub, just all those ruddy bolts to take out.Reassembly is just the reverse.Btw I’m 60 years young this year, knees are ok-try squatting it relieves them, back problems mainly muscular, repair themselves within a few days, eat plenty of protein – thats what muscles are made of.Trapped nerves, try stretching exercises – I had trouble in my early forties mainly through pulling appliances from under worktops with my right hand, muscle built up on my right shoulder and the twisting action caused the problem.Try alternating which hand you use.

Interlock fitted and machine working ok,fiddly but only one screw.Prewash light flashing is the code for interlock fault.

What a rip off ! All that money and you’ve still got a rubbish appliance. This is just another ruse cooked up by sharp suited accountants.Charging up front means they have no incentive to turn out (see my earlier post – 6 weeks waiting).Customer I’ve just been to quoted next Thursday – 1 week.Machine had blown up -a BWD 129 (a quick look underneath revealed an exploding module) bloke at the other end of the phone said the machine would drain itself and she could open the door after 2 hours,I dont know how he figured that one out seeing that she had just told him that it blew the fuse as soon as she turned it on.I’ll bet that merloni turn out times get longer and complaints rise – what a way to run a company.

‘FUCS’ is an English expression and means ‘Fast Unbalanced Control System’ – just quoting the Zanussi document :rolls:

Thanks boys but the machine is now mine – swapped it for one of my quality refurbished WMs – customer happy. It turned out that the water valve had frozen up during the recent cold spell fracturing the valve – theyre prone to this because the valve is extended by a bit of glued plastic.Apparently there was about 3 inches of water on the floor -everything was soaked – I would have BERed it but didnt get a complete story.Baron I dont think you would have come across one of these in Romania, the motor is brushless – I think its three phase and the module has an enormous heat sink and large capacitor, if its like the Samsung 1600 its known as an invertor – how it works is beyond me.

Thanks Chris after trawling through the document dressed up in some weird tech jargon it seems I need a new interlock or cable – ordered today.I bet the Zanussi lads have a laugh at the FUCS ,I wonder if its pronounced like ROM or RAM.

Well, well went back today with another module – result the same – just a flash from the leds when unplugged. However as an afterthought I unplugged the thermostat and tried again – the door locked and the pump came on but no motor action.Going back tomorrow with a new thermostat – fingers crossed. I only continuity checked the stat, what resistance should I get at room temp.
