    Re: panasonic washing machines

Here’s my two penn’orth .We’ve refurbished a few of these in the workshop eg model no.NA-168VX2 which is 8kg 1600 spin. They tend to bounce about a bit with various loads. We’ve had a couple of call backs with H43 faults which is water in the base (this seems to be main complaint on public forums on this model)We’ve nailed it to the door seal – the band holding it to the tub isnt adequate , there isnt enough rubber onto the tub and the door seal is too soft and a slack fit. With the excessive movement the door seal leaks. In conclusion – nice looking machines, electronics second to none(what other m/c has a cooling fan on the pcb like desktop pc)door seal, band and suspension not up to scratch.Customers that buy these tend to buy on the reputation of the TVs.Theyre priced in the Bosch Loggix,ISE,cheaper Miele range but not as good – with a few tweaks they could be.

King Dick-errm it looks like a screwdriver. However if youve got a branch of Range near you they have a crosshead screwdriver about 2 feet long, great for getting those baked in screws at the back of ovens without sticking your head in the oven.Longer than the old blue Stanley(ala Yorkshire Ripper)used on the Hoover Juniors.

Sounds like it could be the same as I cant quite tell if the water level is correct.Machine I believe is a Brandt – I wasnt going to go any further with this one but if it just means removing the control panel I might have a go.

I’m having a week of financial tussles with my Asian customers however today this took the biscuit when it came to payment time.’Can you make the bill smaller as we have to send money to our relatives in Pakistan’.They had a brand new white Scirocco outside.I’m afraid they got short a short reply and money was paid reluctantly in full.

I’ve got stock answers for most of these customers e.g. Q.’Is that your best price’
A.’I dont ask you for your best price when I get in your taxi/takeaway/resteraunt’
    Money is usually forthcoming.

Thanks Martin this machine is one we’ve acquired to refurbish .As they are quite new I dont know much about them but will download the manual now.We had problems with a similar washer – turned out to be the motor which affected the door lock but we havent a spare motor to try this time.Must be the smallest motor fitted to a modern washing machine.

The mains wire went straight to the motor -amazing the belt didnt come off until the end.Something quite satisfying watching this, some other makes deserve this treatment.

Customer bought a refurbished cooker from us 2 years ago and rented a washer at the same time.Payment for the washer has been sporadic and were chasing it on a regular basis. His girlfriend phoned us the other day to tell us one of the rings on the cooker had gone and we had better come out and fix it as the “law” says we are liable for any faults for 6 years. After pointing out that this is a secondhand cooker and this “law” does not apply, she then said she is stopping paying for the rented washer (which is in arrears anyway) until we give her the name of our solicitor.Guess what -we’ve sent her the standard letter to reclaim the washer (and to sue for the arrears) and as for the cooker I think she can swivel.Where do these muppets come from there just seem to be more of them everyday.

This was still under guarantee.Smeg engineer tried the pcb with no joy before Christmas.Just fitted a new oven thermostat switch 9th Jan now ok.Crap design the whole cooker is out action for 3 weeks because of this.Think there should be a campaign to keep digital electronics out of simple devices like cookers.

I use a cold chisel and ‘big Henry’ a 4lb lump hammer.Knock a notch in the nut and then clout it until it moves. To remove the pulley jam the wooden handle through the pulley and spin the drum anti clockwise.

Thanks Martin – all done and dusted.Just to say that the small plastic cover slides upwards and you have to pull the washer out about 3 inches to get the middle screw on the front panel out with a torx screwdriver. Its so easy when you know how.

The use of vinegar and other mild acids such as lemon juice and urine as early laundry aids was really just to lower the surface tension of water ie it became wetter and penetrated the fabrics easier.Copious rinsing followed and lots of elbow grease, bacteria were unheard of -I think we’ve moved on since.
In the ruins of Pompeii there’s a 2000 thousand year old laundry with a well and several large stone troughs, all thats needed to get it up and running again are a few togas,a barrel of urine and a few slaves -unlike the 18month old Hotpoint with a hole in the tank and a blown pcb I saw this week.Sometimes I wonder about certain aspects of progress.

    Re: waste carrier insurance

The ‘jackals’ taking scrap around this area have suddenly disappeared. The local paper reported that two vehicles last week had been stopped and confiscated with the wrong insurance.Apparently they are supposed to have hauliers insurance which is £2000 upwards.A bit worrying not knowing how far down the ‘food chain’ this applies.

Hell youve just spoilt my day after finding out I could have had another 30 days to enjoy my cash.I havent had a reminder but I paid up on line at 3minutes to midnight on the 31st July. When I clicked the box for the amount it automatically put the amount in the box so you couldnt be a bit short and yes it was more than I was expecting.
