    Re: Stinking job

Farmers in recession! Dont believe a word.In the 30 years Ive been doing this job theyve always said the same thing – ‘Eeh the jobs knackered lad’ meanwhile the 4x4s got bigger and posher, theyre sitting on valuable property’been in the family for generations’ and then the cheeky b*ggers ask for a discount ‘for luck’.Lucky for me they dont get it.The bankroll they pull out of their pocket is about as thick as your arm.I often thought anybody with a criminal mind should rob them at a cattle market theyd make a fortune and the victims wouldnt declare how much theyd been fleeced in case the Inland Rev wanted to know where the cash came from – what a wicked thought.

That graph that Coleman was using is the same one I was looking at but with a crucial difference the Co2 is in avery light blue and the temp in red so you could hardly see that the Co2 levels had gone off the scale.Trying to cover it up methinks. On an empirical level, having climbed and walked in the Alps for the past 30years the shrinkage of the glaciers is phenomenal, sometimes up to a mile and 200m of ice have disappeared-thats a lot of ice. This year I was in the Pyrenees and the glaciers are nearly nonexistent.I think the people in these mountains believe in climate change.

    Re: Another joke.

Cheeky customer came up with this one yesterday and I fell for it (yes I did arrive at 6pm when he had booked an afternoon call – but he still got his bearings done)

Customer:’Did you know that theres a new sex position in the Kama Sutra called the washing machine engineers position’
    Me:’Oh yes whats that’
Customer:’Its when youre in all day but nobody comes’

Failing on spin! Is this because theyre not spinning fast enough(i.e. the manufacturers are telling porkies) or because as I suspect the water can’t get away fast enough because the outlet is the same size as their base model (1000 rpm) the water is just whirling around at 1600 rpm.Manufacturers just think they can add a faster motor plus fancy electronics to get better results.I wonder if anybody has tested results with or without the non return ball – I sometimes remove these if they are emptying into a ‘proper’ waste pipe.

Thanks Martin ,I only had a perfunctory look at this the other day as I was in the area when the call came in.Didnt realise it has a mechanical timer as I only played with the buttons to try and reset it . I’ll give it amore detailed look on monday.

I’m looking at a chart produced by ‘National Geographic’ which covers the last 400,000 years in which time we have had 4 ice ages caused by the wobble of the earth away from the sun. After each ice age there has been a rise in temperature as the earth moved nearer the sun, crucially closely followed by a rise in CO2 levels(up to 300 parts per million). However this time the graph shows that the CO2(now up to 380 parts per million) increase precedes the temperature increase – so now we are in uncharted territory and this is where the dispute arises.

Talking to a geologist the other day and I asked him about all of this and he said the jury is still out on climate change but if that doesnt get us lack of natural resources would. So if youre still driving a 4litre 4×4 and sticking your fingers in your ears and saying ‘la la la’ whenever environmental concerns are mentioned you deserve a (green) asbo.

    Re: Bosch Parts Price Rant

Just looked at the retail price of a timer for a creda 377754 condenser drier just one of those white ones with two switches -one for the motor and one for the heater they retail about £50.Its similar to the white knight one and-a little bird at Crosslee told me they buy them in at less than £1.To be realistic Ive to quote the customer £80 fitted, knowing that they wont – just another BER.

With popular parts they usually keep the price fairly low because they know the pattern spares guys are waiting in the wings eg drum support and bearings for hotpoint WM still coming to us at about £20.

As for Whirlpool they and their problems are their own fault,if you treat your customers with contempt it will come back to bite you.Ludicrously priced spares, poorly made washers, over designed ovens -the market decides, serves them right.

Life is just too short for most Smeg dishwasher faults. You’ve got to ask yourself is it profitable to keep on going back and trying something else. The error codes are a joke -lights that flash that have no code and as for the e2 fault pick any one from ten.Unless you have a good range of spares to swap and try its hardly worth it.Remember its got to be profitable!I’ve wasted many an hour on these before I saw the light.Smegs live under many disguises but the black plastic bottom is the giveaway.

Well I dragged this one out and it turned out to be the capacitor on the circ pump.Clockwork timer and a buzzer that just indicates an error -could be any error but not helpful at all.Without the buzzer I would have heard the circ pump humming and had a good idea what was wrong.

Theres a thread somewhere about a resistor on the timer going down cheap and easy to replace, failing that wasnt there somebody with 50 w/pools with sealed tubs all with the bearings gone-must be a few good timers there.

Thanks Chris looks like customer took sticker off the hob and stuck it on the oven manual.I couldnt find a model number on the oven.I’ll have to go back and remove the element and try and match it.Ho hum another 20 mile round trip.
