with the wash load in start a wash and check that the drum will rotate in each direction alternately

The drum does rotate and the machine runs on a 40degree cycle (empty) without issue.

so when does it beep and stop?

did you try the machine after blowing down it ,they sometimes stick and the extra umph you give it will free it temporary .
