    Re: TDS……ARGH!!!!!

    Hi all,
I appreciate all the remedies but I’m a simple bloke. I ran it on XP on the old laptop and tried again yesterday and the message “component DBGRID32.OCX OR ONE OF IT’S DICREPENCIES NOT CORRECTLY REGISTERED: a file is missing or invalid. I don’t know about separating PDFs or the rest, last time it loaded it worked on XP.
On the new laptop it doesn’t give me an option, just loads on an old program.
I think I might give up.

    Yes Adobe installed.
    The message comes up.
” Adobe cannot open the file as it’s not a supported file or the file is damaged”

    Jem, where do I start?
Don’t know what access runtime or MS accees are.
It doesn’t crash, just won’t run when loaded and the screenshot, no but will tell you the error when I restart the old’un but it takes about 20 mins to get going so will do that tomorrow.
Funny thing is it loaded about 2 years ago without those things unless they come annonymously with MS updates.
Will post the error code in the morning.
    Thanks for answering.

    Re: Trade Secrets?

Maybe this information is readily available on Google but I don’t see why, with a trade only section, this information should be displayed for all and sundry unless seeing the ads alongside for UKW spares sales this has something to do with it.
My thoughts are that if a punter wants info, let them find it but I wouldn’t go out of my way to help. I’m in business to make a living from my knowledge and will help anyone in the trade but not Joe Soap who wants to save a few bob.

Last year I had a Whirlpool f/l I sold , 2 weeks out of g’tee with the bearings gone. Customer contacted Whirlpool and strangely they said all their appliances had a 2 year guarantee and promptly had it repaired FOC. I did start a thread on it at the time. She tried the ‘phone but was fobbed off but sent an email and had a call next day to say it would be repaired. Hasd the same on a W’pool dishwasher last week 18 months old and again they are repairing FOC.

Anyone, however experienced and well trained can make a mistake, even I have been known to on very rare occasions 😆 but I don’t think the way to go about it is to criticize on here and it was only an error on refitting an element.Let he who….cast the first stone
Many years ago as a supervisor for a large manufacturer I found the best way was a quiet word was always better than ” to tell it like it is”

Thanks Martin, I was of that opinion but when there was no check water light I thought it may be the PCB.
I’ll give it a go and fingers crossed.

Re: Starting up an Appliance repair business

Wise words from Lee, don’t underprice yourself. I put my minimum labour up from £40 to £50 on freestanding and £50 to £60 on built in and the only difference I noticed was in my bank balance.
Before I left Servis I gave cards to all customers and left stickers on their machines and still get calls 12 years later.
I leafleted the village and also close to calls I went to in local areas. If you would like a sample of my leaflet message me and I’ll send you one.
    Best of luck.
