It’s a good job most houses are fitted with an RCD if an earth test is not carried out as I am sure his Boss would be held to account if someone had a shock or worse.

It also puts his engineers at risk.

A few years ago I am sure I went to a set up maybe buy a TV company as I repaired a fault on a relay on a compressor that was loose.

I then tested it with a megger and found an earth fault.

I traced it to the earth wire to the stat was off and shorting on the live on the stat.

It’s a good job I tested it before turning it on as the appliance was turned off and unplugged when I arrived and the customer an old lady was saying it tripped the mains and was asking questions all the time.

She was asking more questions than you would expect an old lady to know and made me think it was a set up with the faults on the fridge as an earth wire and a relay do not just fall off.

    Re: IOT enabled Engineers

I had a customer and Virgin had changed the Wi fi router.

The fridge would not reset to the new router code so the only way the customer could have her fridge working was with an unlocked internet connection.

I advised her this was not a good idea as it left her open to having her computer and information hacked.

She allowed me to use her computer to connect via the Web to her router and I changed the code on her router to the old setting she had for the fridge as you could not change the fridge to the new code.

She said she wished she had not bought it now and only her ten year old daughter knew how to use it.

I tried to book the event. Tickets online as per email but site not ready yet.

    I will try again tomorrow.

The hotel was not aware of any special rate for the event and is phoning me back tomorrow.

I will post when I have booked.

I am looking forward to it as I will not have any work to catch up on as I will be retired by then

    Cheers

    It should be worth it.
It depends on if the insulation has been damaged by the defrost heater over heating.

This model had a lot of problems but is still better than the new Samsung.

If it is the age you say then it may pay to invest in a new one.

If you decide to replace it I would buy a Daewoo.

This make is normally reliable and Bosch / Siemens American style are just rebadged Daewoo but cost 3 Times as much.

It sounds like it may be the fridge evaporator sensor faulty.

By turning on the boost it overrides the sensor.

It is most likely the defrost heater has shorted out and it has blown the safety fuse.

It will need to be checked by an engineer to replace the heater and fuse and to make sure it has not burnt through the evaporator.

Turning it off for a few hours may be not enough.

Turn it off for a minimum of 24 hours with the doors open.

If it is running it will not be a pcb problem if it does not cool down after a Full defrost then it will most likely bea gas or compressor fault.

    Re: Daewoo FR-4501K Thermostat

It will not be a pcb fault.

If the vent is iced up then the fridge will not get cold.

Carry out a full defrost first turn off for l48 hours with the doors open.

When you turn it back on after a few hours the fridge will be cold again.

If the problem returns if it is white frost only near the top then it may be low on refrigerant or you have a defrost heater or defrost sensor fault.

If it does not cool in the fridge after a defrost then it may be a faulty fan motor.

Have you checked to see if the evaporator or vents to the fridge are iced up.

    Re: Samsung screws grrrr.

A drill / driver set on torque setting shocks them loose.

If there is not enough room you can get long screw bits and driver holders.

    Re: Daewoo FR-4501K Thermostat

This must be an updated model then it will not have a thermostat and it will be controlled buy the main pcb and a sensor.

You can post a picture if you like and it will help if you can describe the fault you have

Is the compressor running ? , Is it running not cooling or is it the fridge or freezer or both not working ?

It’s surprising how much fluff you can get when you dry disposable nappys and sweet packets.

    Re: Noise but no cooling…

It sounds like the compressor or gas if it is not cooling and running all the time.

Not a cheap or DIY repair so better to buy a new one.
