Re: fridge drain hole blocked on a Hotpoint FFA80

It has an internal drain line and it freezes up.

It will need a 48 hour defrost to clear it .

When it is clear if you spray silicon spray down the drain line it helps stop it from freezing.

The problem will return but it seems to last for at least 12 months before it freezes again if you spray it.

A landlord I know has this model in all his flats and sprays the drain every six months and this seems to solve the problem.

If the fuse has not cured the problem and you have replaced and checked the heater and thermal fuse and defrost sensor.

Then you can check the air sensor.

I had an RS21 with the fault of the fan not working and it was the fridge air sensor faulty.
This sensor should be just for sensing the temperature for the display but when a new one was fitted the fan worked ok again.

This was the only time I have ever had to replace the air sensor as normally this sensor does not give any problems.

You also need to check it is defrosting ok and the fan has not iced up as you said it worked ok for a few days after you replaced the heater.

As it is only 1 month old you need to contact Currys to arrange a visit from Samsung to check it for you.

Do not try to repair it yourself as this will invalidate your Warenty

The bottom heater will be the fault as from your discription of the fault the main heater is working so the defrost sensor and thermal fuse will be ok.

If it was in a block of ice then the bottom heater is faulty. The top heater is on the evaporator it runs around the evaporator.

This top heater is working ok if it was not the evapoator would be covered in soft white frost.
It is defrosting but as the bottom heater is not working as it defrost the water refreezes

The two centre tubes are the evaporator tubes that cools with the refrigerant.

The outer tubes on the evaporator / front and back are the heater.

In your picture near the sensor you will see the wires leading to this top heater.
One black and one red wire near the silver tape.

Did you check both heaters as 2 heaters on this model main defrost heater on the evaporator and drain heater on the bottom.

The sensor is no 1 on your photo and the sensor is the one on the WTA shop link you have given.

If the main defrost heater is working it defrost but the drain at the bottom blocks with ice if the bottom heater is not working.

If it is just the drain freezing up it will be the drain heater faulty.

This heater is at the bottom in the picture.

    Re: Amana Fridge Freezer

I have found in the past if you replace the PCB about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the ones I have replaced the compressors have failed within a year of the pcb being replaced.

This may be due to this type of fault puts extra stress on the compressor.

So depending how old it is and the condition if it is worth fitting a new PCB.

    Re: Amana Fridge Freezer

This is most likely a main PCB fault,

If you replace the PCB it needs to be programmed in so you would need an engineer to fit.

New PCB’s come with instructions but the code on the label inside the fridge rarely works and it will not program with an incorrect code.

It will need a default code depending on the Jazz number on the PCB

Check to see if any of the door shelfs are touching the main shelfs or if the main shelfs are fitted correctly and not touching the door when you close it.

As you are not a Gas Safe engineer no one on the WTA would be able to pass a wiring diagram.

All work carried out on a Gas or duel fuel appliance should be Gas Safe tested.

    Sorry unable to help

If you forget to put it in your toolbox and leave it at the customers house you could be adding to the divorce rate. 😀

Or with a bit of luck the customer will ring you for a return visit.

Re: Stumbled across this whilst looking for fridge training

Things have moved on a lot since this was published R12 is no longer used and you need city and guilds 2078 and 2079 for safe handling of refrigerants if you work on any systems other than R600a.

R600a is a flammable gas so this also needs safety training for handling this gas.

If a R600a system has been opened and not Factory sealed you also have to have city & Guilds 2079 as you can no longer assume it is R600a in the System.

Most modern fridge freezers are now frost free and electronically controlled so fault finding is now completely different to the old way.

Even with all the Training you need to have experience to get to no the faults a modern frost free fridge freezer can have.

You should be able to get more up to date publications of refrigerant systems for the safe handling of refrigerants from your local college or Bridgewater College

But this does not cover the electronics or defrost systems.
