    Re: HD lcd tv

    Hi Ken,

The system I was indicating at was SED (Surface-Conduction Electron-Emitter Display). Now Dave who started the post may now be utterly confused when all he wants to know is what LCD should he buy.

As you say Ken no matter what system you have if it is not set up properly then you wont get the best results, personally my CRT picture on my 5 year old Sony is far superior to any LCD or Plasma that I have seen.

Living between two glens with a rather large mountain at the back I had poor picture quality untill my local arial rigger sorted it out for 50 quid so it will be a wee while yet before I decide to go down the slimline way.

A tv engineer friend of mine does not rate LCD or Digital picture quality and say’s CRT still gives the best picture by far, he has also mentioned a new picture system that is ready for launch which gives the same picture quality as CRT but thinks launch date will be prior to China olympics.

Re: Hotpoint WMA Washer draining problem

Was at a H/P WT741 to day, not draining. Through door glass could see the dreaded bath and floor mat, anyway remove machine from under worktop and on further inspection found no blockage whatsoever.

Looking at drain hose where it goes through side hole in unit found hose to be squashed flat due to machine being pushed back against it.

Once repaired pump drained no prob, have had this before but bath mats made me start looking in pump and sump area.

If machine drains into waste pipe via spiggot take this off and check for blockage have found 5p in here before.

    Re: Comeuppance!!!!!!!

That’s amazing, the same happened to me a few weeks ago, lady of the house said fan oven not heating (three year old Neff) tho in this case nobody had attempted a repair.

So first check clock is not set to auto (how many times have we all had that type of story) anyway, clock is set OK so switch fan oven on and hey presto it works. Customer say’s thats not the one I use and proceedes to show me the setting for conventional oven and I explain the fan noise she is hearing is the cooling fan. The thing is she had the hand book out in case I needed it, no no no dear lady I think you should sit down and have a good read your self. With the call charge paid it was on to the next adventure.

    Re: ABUSIVE CUSTOMERS

    Hi All,
I must be very very lucky with my customers having had none of the above bother apart from about 5 years ago when I fitted a main oven thermostat to a built in oven, a few months pass and the customer comes on the phone saying same problem again not heating up so still under guarantee.

I exlpained that it was, however if it was something else causing the problem then of course a charge would be made, at that the customer says, Oh you’ll say it’s something else anyway and will still get charged and slammed the phone down.

Anyway sorry to read all of the above tales.

Hello_75 is right, only the other day I was at a customers fitting element to electric cooker, she was explaining about a plumber who called last week to repair a dripping tap, fitted a washer in and out in ten mins and £50 quid please.

Do not do not under value your trade.

    Hi Ken
If you were to young to see them perform as Led Zep, do you remember when Plant had his own band “Robert Plant and his band of joy” no kidding, as a local band in Dundee we supported them at the local Top ten club.

    Re: What do you say???

Over the years I have had a few older clients with this can’t close the door problem. Just last week an older customer with arthritis called saying she could not close door, as it was an older Hotpoint I thought it might be a pecker adjustment job.

Anyway turns out everthing with machine is OK so as with other older clients I showed her how to close door by first pushing door to body of machine with by hand then using knee giving a gentle push. She tried this and hey presto she did it, she was chuffed as anything.

Yes this part is available, Connect for one can supply, however was called last week to one with same (common) prob and I was out of my own van stock of these so I carried out a repair with tub repair kit.

Make up the mix then apply to the four tabs and securing points at rear of facia panel, refit panel then tell customer not to use till next day to allow mix to set.

My customer phoned to say that it works a treat even better than before it had broken.

    Re: Large Whirlpool American Dryer.

You can do the same with a bit of blue tack, press it on the concave and give a sharp pull and out it comes, only till you get stock to replace tho.
