No probs, you need to test from Each connection to Earth. If it didn’t trip your RCD you should be ok. Will look up the winding resistances for you later.

Hi Squaddie: I did take the fee situation into account when I started out up here & I was charging a fee, at that time my nearest competition was 8 miles away & everyone was charging a callout charge. Now i’ve got 3 competitors basically in the same village & they don’t charge any callout or for estimates, my other competitors going further afield are all going the same way with no callout charges etc. Asked a woman in the village yesterday why she had a firm from 20 miles away to do her machine & the answer I got was that they gave free callout & diagnostic service and they clean the machine once they’ve finished the repair, I give up with these people they might as well give the parts free as well.

Re: Oven keeps tripping off switch on main house circuit boa

Hi: It could be a couple of things but you would need to have a Megger & know how to use it to locate the fault.

Hi Dave: Did you trace out the wiring from the blown area to see what it feeds ?. Disconnect the motor & do a Megger test from each terminal to the motor caseing. When you say the pump & wash motor are different, do you mean they have different mountings ?

Hi Tony: I don’t know this particular machine, but the 1st thing i’d do in your situation would be to trace the wiring from the heater back to whatever board controls it and check for bad solder joints & bad capacitors.

Hi: You should’nt be working on the appliance while live.
You say that the machine will fill & run, but nothing about it emptying out. If the machine does’nt empty due to a blockage, faulty pump or pump not being energised then it won’t go into spin.

Before you do, make sure you check the module numbers against each other just to make sure.

Ken: I know I made a flippant reply to your post earlier but I do see exactly where your coming from & agree with what your saying, Especially about a lot of engineers standing still.

Funky: I don’t know if leaving any form of guide with the customer is going to do any good in the majority of cases, most don’t even bother to read the instructions that come with the machine never mind read any guide we might leave with them. A few years back I bought some discs with loads of appliance user manuals on, the intention being if a customer didn’t have a manual for their machine i’d leave a copy as a courtesy & they could hopefully use the machine more efficiently. In 5 years only 2 people have taken me up on that offer.

    Re: Hotpoint Ultima WF860

Thanks again for the manual Jim, Much appreciated. Went to the machine this morning, as I opened it up I could smell that telltale carbonisation smell. Pulled the module to find it blown in multiple places, then noticed that the wiring had been chafed through where it runs above the module & 5 of the wires had shorted together. Interlock is also burned out so told the customer roughly how much she’s looking at & she had the sense to opt for a new machine.

Wonderful customer care, sorry madam your appliance is dangerous but it’s ok to keep using it as long as you watch it.
I’m with you Bo: Wreckless to put it mildly.

    Re: whirlpool timer blown

Hi: If you trace the print from the burned area to the edge connector it feeds, that will give you pretty good proof of what caused your problem. Once you’ve done that trace & check the wiring from the edge connector to the item it feeds, door switch or whatever & look carefully for any nicks in the insulation that could have earthed out to the metal work. Pay particular attention to where it goes under any clips or cable ties.

No idea, but if it’s on a list of Dangerous appliances then anyone with a quarter ounce of brain matter should be able to work out that it should’nt be used for themselves.
