Re: Hotpoint F/F Model 8595 Fridge broken but Freezer works

There is a sensor(thermistor) in the fridge which via the control opens the motorised baffle to allow cold in from the freezer which cools the fridge. If you have ice forming between the freezer and fridge comaprtments it’s the beginning of the end for the old girl, this can also keep the fridge from coming on as it’s cooling the fridge down too,it will get progressively worse.
Look for a spring bargain 😉

Have in the past on commercials riveted plates to the bottom edge of the door to effect a better support for the hinge giving it more strength.Probably a plastic edge but still may be possible.

Were the pipes in freezer evnly coated with ice all over? if they weren’t it’s likely you have a refrigerant loss or compressor fault. The circulation fan doesn’t operate until -12c is acheived on evaporator so that’s why it’s not working but it is a seperate raeson as suggested above wht the machine isn’t cooling.
Not a diy job, time for an engineer.

Could be the motor relay which would also give that effect, sits on the side of the motor inside a plastic housing.
Not easy for a diy to test, possibly worth chancing a replacement as they are not too expensive.
    Unplug before checking.

Ken Dodd said last time I saw him on stage that he invented self assesment !
Working last Saturday got home to find my HMRC invitation also 😯 ,unfortunately whilst working in the snow I walked to my van for spares and my heel slipped off a curb, no more than a 3″ drop jarring my back,”hmm I thought bet that will be stiff tomorrow”,STIFF i couldn’t move at all until Tuesday, went to my normal physio/osteopath who has restored some movement. Still stiff but haven’t worked this week and shan’t bother next to give myself time to recover.
Sick pay not so hot either :rolls:
    Still Merry Christmas 😉

It is likely from the defrost element that runs through the evaporator, forum rules forbid giving info on wiring but sounds like you need a defrost element which comes with wires connected and plug.

Woman took her dog to the vets and said “can you have a look at him he’s gone cross eyed”.
Vet lifted him up examined him and said “I’m going to have to put him down”.
“What” she said”just cos he’s cross eyed?”
“No” said the vet “cos he’s too heavy”.

You really need an engineer to test for faults first,an earth fault/short circuit could have caused board failure so putting another one on without a check could be expensive !
