My thoughts too Kieth. When I managed a kitchen design company, back in the day, that was the number one reoccurring fault with appliances, especially if the customer fitted it them selves, no offence intended to the original poster. The instructions will explain where the links need to be positioned for a 240v supply.

ParticipantWaste Carriers Licence
From reading the previous post more is involved than just having the waste carriers licence. The T11 covers the stripping and repairing of appliances for resale. Or has that changed now?

I know this is an old thread but didn’t want to start a new one, Has there been any new information or does the fee and the T11 still stand?
The thought occurred to me, is this fee per site or could we as the WTA collectively buy the the exemption?

Participantrecon machine
Does any one have any t&c’s for selling recon machines. I would like to offer a 3 month warrantee but don’t want to expose my self to abuse.
How do you guys that are selling recons go about.
Thanks

ParticipantRetail or Industrial unit ?
I’ve always thought shop is preferable over industrial as a shop window is a great advert and will generate trade. However industrial is massively cheaper.
A bit of analysis needed of your foot fall v repeat business needed.I know of a number of retailers that have both a high street presence and an industrial unit for storage.

ParticipantStarting up an Appliance repair business
Getting know in your local area is key but will also take some effort and imagination, some free places to start with are yell.com they let you put a free listing up and I get a lot of work from that. Set up a google account and then under business solutions at the bottom of a google search page claim a Google places entry, this works best with a web address which you can also set up for free in business solutions or if you want something a little more professional call Dave Bunyan on 01472 806320 he offers 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount for WTA members.
Vista print can supply free business cards which I use as flyers.
Your local area will have a face book page, some thing like ‘ buy and sell(your town) add a post offering your services.
If you get a van have it lettered, this is free advertising.
You may be able to get your local news paper to do a little story on your business.
That should get you going.

ParticipantYellow pages 2012 ( is it any better this year )
I had a different thought and went for the cheapest line add in the 2 relevant sections.
My reasoning was that if I got just one call per add, the whole year then that’s paid for its self. Mostly rely on yell and google but set the advertising budget at no more that £1000.00 for these.
Stats show that about 85{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all searches are done on google now.So a good web site is key.
Dave at Juice-e web design is offering 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount for all WTA members 01472 806320

I’ve been using one of these for over a year now. Fits in my tool bag easily and because I always have my meg with me, no need to carry extra bulky kit into house.
