Re: Bosch washer – WAQ28461GB/12 – bearings shot

The frustration is that most of the customers resigned the fact that the machines were not as it used to be and simply went out to buy a new one. While this is not a safety issue, but it’s a simple case of poor workmanship and now you are saying the replacement tank is an improved version of the former. How do we know it is the improved version as it could happen again?

Mind you the tank is a special order and it would be some time before I can get my hands on it, which was why the customer went out to buy a new one.

The said washing machine is in my possession with the view to repair, supposedly my wife could contact Bosch to get a repair on the ground she was given it? Or can the trade get cheaper tank for the machine via Bosch direct?

Were they made to self destruct after a year’s out of guarantee? I expected that from budget brands but not from Bosch if you purchased for £400, in hindsight, the customer would be better off with Hotpoint induction motor type as they would last marginally longer for less than £300. Somehow those 10 years free parts guarantee seems attractive after three years of use, still cheaper to pay Hotpoint to come out to replace the tub rather than buying a new washer.

I’m gonna have to review on how I sell my washers to the customers. Everybody wants a Miele but don’t want to pay for one. I’m left with Bosch, LG and Hotpoint. I might as well tell my customer to take a pick of any brand to their fancy as I can’t really vouch for the quality on any of it.

The customer says that it washes well only when it comes to tumble dry that the clothes comes out damp and hot. With the outcome it showed the F05. I am guessing that the inlet valve is the problem even though it is not relating to the drain pump?

Most customers of Hotpoint washers don’t have the patience to have it repaired let alone EMW or QER it. I’m surprised that the customer is happy to waste time.

    Re: Alternative to a van.

If you fancy a 4×4, then there are some vans like the Piaggio Porter who have a 4×4 variant. It might be too small? Last time I checked, it can carry one or two washing machine but carry limited supplies.

I think it’s a bit like a Fiat Panda and you can’t do extreme off roading but can get to ungritted road.

Last time I posted on this thread I commented how slow work was, I checked the sales figures against last year and strangely enough fewer jobs but quality of work was high. The turnover was higher than like for like. To be honest most of the jobs were fixed on the spot without ordering parts as I had them on the van. I was in the right place and right moment when you get a run of jobs using up van stocks. Made a huge difference then come next month, the van stocks was hardly used and the parts were ordered.

When I did the belt change, it was quite straight forward. It was a case of forewarned and forearmed. It was all over in half an hour.

That picture of the drum, to the untrained eye like me, I can tell that’s scrap. As a rule, no sharp edges in contact of clothes, otherwise you will get a very sharp tongue from the customer.

Curious how one can modify the dryer to be more efficient, if that’s supposedly be the issue? Surely would be much cheaper to issue new dryers than sending an engineer out?

I have seen this happened to me a while back. It was a surprise and rather frustrating as it burst your bubble thinking it was going to be a nice easy job.

Re: Old appliances/ scrap metal not being collected!!

I left out an old metal caravan step on the other day and it was gone within half an hour. Depends on where you live and scrap metal are still being collected daily.

I get £2 for dishwasher, £4 for washing machine when I take it to scrap yard. It’s so low that I started charging customers a disposal fee whenever I supply and install new appliances.

Re: White Knight 38AW: The back/sides don’t come off!

I did manage to remove the blades by removing the clip and unscrew it without difficulty. It’s how I would put the belt on which is another matter so I am keen to hear from others on how they did it.

I have a theory involving removing the back panel and partly lift the drum out of the door channel and slip the belt on, then screw it back in. Turn the dryer on its side and open up the plate underneath and slip the belt onto the motor. Well that’s the theory but I do know from experience the dryer belt need to be very tight and often requires special tool to do this. If you do know a trick or two, please post back.

    Cheers

I had similar problems and decided it’s not worth the effort. Ended up flogging on eBay with no reserve. Pure chance I managed to off load the last two on the asking price plus fitting charge. It’s the end of the road here for me. All the best on shifting the stocks.

Is this the 3kg version or a full size version?
